Needed to visit parents today

I live in appleton, wi which has a CN railyard that runs along hwy 10 that i'd drive along

and I've been running this you tube channel in the background while I work from home and thought I'd take a few pics if I had time to find it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_zdpIrRqUM

this is from the roof of the Waupaca rail station museum, I didn't have time to go in and check it out, but they had a caboose and short car on outside display, so all you rivet counters can cringe at real life wear and tear

a single cabeese

anyone know what the color code is for?

webcam from above

my shot of the area

webcam shot of ME waving (chat was hilarious)

20 seconds later (carriers were full of SUVs)

The color code used to identify the car to a trackside scanner so the railroad could track car movements. This scheme didn't work very well, apparently, so it's no longer in use. I think there's now an RFID chip in a little box attached to the sides of cars.

Maybe concurrent with bar codes. I'd see it as a colored bar code.

Here's a little history of the KarTrak or ACI bar code and scanners to track the movement of equipment:
