Hello
Have received inquires to the TYCO site numerous times regarding the story on the paint variations for the Spirit of '76 Century 430. The inquiry is usually for confirmation that the original C430's bicentennial scheme included the official U.S. Presidential seal and that TYCO was instructed to discontinue its supposed unauthorized usage. At times this story is also supplied with auctions on eBay for the early example Spirit of '76 C430s.
Does anyone know the story on this seal situation? The later C430s and other Spirit of '76 TYCO offerings seem to still use what looks like the same seal to me. If the story is correct that TYCO was told to stop using the seal, does anyone have a source? Is there a reference to the subject in say a Model Railroader or Railroad Model Craftsman to help confirm this assertion.
Thanks

Tony,I can't help you with your decal question. But I might have a new variation, the Bicentennial 430 I have has a Mantua power truck,5628 number boards. This version also has the second type paint scheme with no blue top behing the red cab' Also of note this loco does not have the blue stripe on the front of the nose, and there is no 76 decal on the nose. I belive that this is an original loco for I purchased it from an older gentleman who said he bought it new. This unit has the second type of President seal without the lettering.

My 1974 tyco catalog shows the bicentennial C430 with the presidential seal in the picture. the 75 catalog shows the more popular version seal without lettering. I own two with the presidential seal with lettering on seal. One is out of box one is mint in box. The paint version is different than the one without lettering on seal. I have two with out lettering also-both mint in box. can send digital pictures upon request-high quality. Brian 4-29-06
