So...a big box arrived on my porch today....

Long story short - I bought an N-Scale layout off of Ebay at a very good price, and it was shipped all the way from the "Sunshine State" of Florida. Luckily, it arrived in 1 piece - despite some track falling off or had already been off and was included by the seller.

I never even thought I would buy a layout and have it shipped to my house, but the price and the layout were both right. This layout is incredibly light, and is already wired, and worked the last time it was tested according to the seller. This is going to be an EPIC layout project, and I can't wait to get started. One thing I do know already, it will be a fictitious American N-Scale layout, which will give my N-Scale American trains left over from my very 1st layout/Christmas layouts of the past, and those acquired for the Horseshoe Curve Branch Line, a new and forever home that they deserve. I always dreamed of building a small but amazing American N-Scale layout, and half the work is already done.
Please stay tuned!

| What is that built from? It kind of looks like a pre-fabricated plastic layout in the pictures. Excellent starting point for sure!

Thank you all!
DaCheez, I agree, as it is some sort of a plastic molded layout underneath the track and wiring which is custom. Yet, I couldn't find a name or date anywhere on it. :(
Will start on this layout soon, so stay tuned.

Nice! I'm reminded of how Life-Like used to make styrofoam layout bases like those, but in many cases the track plan used with them would be a simple circle or oval, or some kind of double oval (often involving either a switch track or an over-under track plan.) Even TYCO sold one for a while in the early 70s, though it might have been a rebranded Life-Like layout base (since prior to the early 70s Life-Like mostly just made landscaping materials and scenic accessories for train layouts.) Regarding a model railroad layout in a box, Bachmann sold some Sears-exclusive sets like those, and Life-Like also had many over the years, with some being sold by multiple retailers and some being store-exclusive.
They sure look fun, but in many cases didn't seem to offer as many expansion possibilities compared to buying a "regular" HO-scale train set and doing your own layout design and landscaping.

| I am wondering...could that be the basis for an HOn3 micro layout?

Interesting Wiley. It's crazy how there is no name anywhere on it, that I've found yet.
Will be working on this layout soon.

Sometime this week at the earliest, if not, then definitely by next Tuesday. The reason why I waited to start on this because I wanted to "finish" the Alpine Railway first, which now that I added the catenary and painted the bridges, it is now at 99% completion. RETRO TYCO is an long-term project, as is the Ephrata Valley Railroad.
With all 3 of my layouts now in the "forever 99% completion" stage, it's time to move on to the 4th.
