Twin 5628 set(s)
Friday, July 27, 2007

Can any one give me the number and date, or catalog for the twin 5628 GP_20 set(s)? I believe it had a piggyback car, the crane platform and livestock car with truck and maybe a UP gon and SF caboose. I don't think the SF and BN GP-20 are shown with or had handrails as far as I can check. The Chatt. and Durango did but I think they were plastic.

Check that,

I found one SF in the 1980 cat, with handrails but the BN doesn't. Some of the other catalog art shows the SF GP20 without handrails.
I have a set like this I bought a set like this 10 years ago in a shoebox for $8.

Thanks,

At least for Brown Box Era, I don't know of any Twin GP20 Train Sets. Saw that pair offered on eBay recently and it is certainly possible. However from 1970-1993 TYCO did not offer any double loco sets beyond F-units.

I'll confirm Red Box Era '60s catalog offerings, but I don't think double GP20's are there either.

Could be a Sears or JCPenney offering. Believe one of those department stores did catalog a double Super630 train set. I have a Chessie Super630 that is non-powered and appears to have always been that way. Maybe that is the origin of the double GP20's too?

Thanks Tony,
I have been looking and haven't seen a GP20 set with a powered and nonpowered either. I didn't get any paperwork with the set. I'm guessing that this was a set was complete and mostly unused. It also came with a trans, true steel track and one turnout.

Hey AF:

I just bought a "trainset" with matching GP20's in SF red/silver where one is a dummy from the factory. If you look at the Ebay listing I think it's the one you spoke of though some stuff is missing!:

Yeh that looks like it. I didn't get the BN? gon . It will be interesting to see if there's a set number on that paperwork.
Thanks
