I like operations, but spending my life adjusting Kadee couplers to allow delicate switching operations is more than I wish to undertake. It's enough work just maintaining what I got. Thought about doing DCC on this layout to run three or four trains, in constant succession, and while tempting, my experience with DCC is that is it is buggy and not terribly reliable, though many will say I am full of baloney. But, I can only speak from experience.
So my compromise is to run 2 DC tracks, electrically isolated, that engages the operator(s) to maintain movement, but not collide. Fortunately, the buffer beams provide good protection from the occasional collision. Take your eyes off what you are doing for an instant and a collision is guaranteed.
