Scale Coat II.... It is about $18 a bottle. It does work well.....

Walther's sells it.....

And note that it is reusable. Tall olive jars are great for dunking HO car and locomotive bodies in.
NOTE: in my experience the Scalecoat Wash Away will turn resin bits to jelly or dissolve them completely.

Dot 3 Brake fluid works well. Needs a good clean after woods to remove the oily feel left by the fluid

Still not sure how you easily get the paint out of diesel grills. It's tough for me.
