Going to do a clean out and lube of this old Varney, which I hope to use as the lead on these old Varney tank cars TopTrain gave me.

My LOTW is my old all-metal Mantua Pacific I got a few years back. I'm sure you guys remember the thread(s) I made about the issues I had with this guy in my first year or so of ownership. Now that I've gained more experience with repairing H0 locomotives, I've finally sat down and actually finished fixing it up as best as I could. As expected, runs good! All it needed was some slight tweaking, changing some screws (some were in the wrong place), and lubrication. Now, all I need to do to make it run as good as new is to replace the back driving wheel (the actual wheel isn't on the axle correctly, so the engine kinda wobbles and has some issues on the curves because of that wheel ). Other than that, it is up and running as good as new. Gotta love these old school H0 locos.

Great job, Kovacste! Surprise! It would appear I have a Revell, not a Varney!

Hate to break the steam theme, but here's my prized Christmas present!
Drum roll, Please!

The walthers ML-8 in red! This little loco is a superb runner! It's a DC only version, so I don't think mine has the keep alive capacitor they are advertised to have, maybe that's only for the DCC versions.
This thing can manage about 7 free rolling cars!

Eh, based on the metal on the loco that you have, it's probably a Varney. I would check the underside. With Revell 0-4-0's, they'll have "Revell" stamped on the bottom. Also, thank you very much! Honestly, it was a lot easier to get going alright than I thought it was. I legitimately thought it was in much worse shape in terms of running performance, but it's actually (for the most part) okay. Aside from the aforementioned back driving wheel, it's about as good as it can be. Amazing how despite everything that's happened with this guy, she's still a great little loco. I know this sound cliche, but they really don't build them like they used to. At least, based on my experience with older locos.

I also think it's a Varney. Check out the differences in the cross heads, the hand rails and the head lights, then google the Varney and see how much the same they are.

Pardon me boy, is that the Chattanooga Choo Choo? Keeping up the steam theme this week, my LOTW this week is my 1987-1990 era TYCO Chattanooga steam engine (the last TYCO version before the 1991-92 Mehano made nightmare-fuel) I received for Christmas, and the matching caboose I just received today.
