I recently bought this vintage TYCO 4-4-0 "General" steam locomotive off of Ebay at a decent price. Everything on this locomotive is original, down to the paint, except for the drive shaft which I did have to replace. However, with a little bit of oil and patience, this "General" fired up and is running okay. I will definitely have to work on cleaning/lubricating the gears, which I hope to share in the next video. Please let me know what you think of this new style of train video on my channel.

Squeaks like a sack full of weasels- love that Tyco sound system. It’s great to see these vintage Pieces up and running what do you reckon it’s age? 60’s, ‘70’s? Does the EVRR have an historical train tour coming up? Reserve me a ticket!
BTW: that sawtooth smoke arrestor is such a cool detail on what otherwise was a semi scale toy train. It certainly ramped up production costs, and it certainly would have sold just as well without it. One wonders what kind of design vs. production team discussions went on about it.

| I've got the Mantua General. I detailed it to my liking and the gears on mine sound like yours as well. Going to a train show Saturday at the Tampa fairgrounds. A 4 hour drive, but worth it for 300+ tables. Brian is going with me. Hopefully I'll find some Labelle there.

LOL...that's not a sound system, Chops. That is the sound of old gears in desperate need of cleaning and proper lube.
The first of Tyco's "Generals" were produced in the late 1950's I believe, during the "Blue Box Era" and were also offered in the 1960's and 1970's. I will do further research into this piece whenever I get the chance, as my job has been taking prevalence.
Alex, cool, and good luck! Labelle oil and Labelle 105 track cleaner are both great products -- I totally recommend them.
