I'm going to double-dip this week, with 2 of the latest additions to the EVRR locomotive roster....
First off, I got this nice AHM Rio Grande C-Liner #6001 off of Ebay recently, for around $20. Runs great!

Finally obtained one of these - LifeLike "High Hood" Santa Fe Warbonnet GP38-2

Cool C - Liner, RP! I didnt even know they came in D&RGW. Is it a rarer paint scheme? My LOTW is a Penn line Midget I got from Brian's for free! I can cross this one off my list now!

Neat midget, Alex!
The Rio Grande is one of harder-to-find liveries of the AHM C-Liner. They released a C-Liner in virtually every popular railroad livery anyway though.

Nope...but there's BN and ATSF variants.

Yeah, there is quite some space between those 2 rail joiners on the outer line. Will have to fix that!

My LOTW is the Spirit of '76 C630. This one is amazing, has a full set of handrails and the presidential seal decals are perfect. Looking to rehome it.

My LOTW is a Rivarossi Berkshire from the C&O. This guy was made in 1974 and it was never opened until I got it. It was still sealed, in fact! The engine was absolutely mint. No signs of zinc rot or any warping or anything like that. Naturally, even after lubrication, it tried to move but it couldn't. The gears and everything were extremely stiff from sitting there for 45 years (even now, they're still a bit stiff, but it's a thousand times better, it should improve with running). After a bit more work and whatnot (loosening the gears, checking for dried grease, etc.) it runs quite nicely, especially forwards. Backwards, though, it's still a bit hesitant, but it's not refusing to move while the motor makes a buzzing noise anymore going that direction, so that's good. This was given to me as a birthday gift. I asked for this guy because we have just gone on the Polar Express ride in Michigan not too long ago and I absolutely fell in love with the beautiful locomotive pulling the train; the Pere Marquette 1225. But yeah, when I opened this unit up to do maintenance on it, I was kinda surprised to find all these very well made metal gears and whatnot throughout the whole model. I was also pleasantly surprised to find how easy it was to take apart (aside from a couple of screws refusing to come out, especially on the bottom of the locomotive. Thankfully, they finally came out, and they haven't had any problems coming out since. ). All in all, beautiful locomotive. It runs extremely nicely for its age (a little better than the Rivarossi New York Central Dreyfuss Hudson I finally repaired the electrical connection for not too long ago, which has a fairly different mechanism from this guy).

Nice Berk, very nice, but I am drooling all over the German Juicer below and steamer above. That Fleischmann also has me twisting my hat in my hands.
I've had a lot of trouble with AHM's cracking their respective worms, over the years. Glad you unfroze it, but would anyone here recommend a drop of super glue on the axle end to prevent it from splitting? Or would that just be a waste of time and risk fouling the entire works?

I’ve never had a Rivarossi steamer crack their gears. That’s something I’ve seen with older Mehano locos from the 70’s. On top of that, all the gears appear to be made out of very well made metal, so it shouldn’t do that anytime soon. However, the locomotive does seem to be a bit jerky going backwards, especially on curves. Going forwards, it’s fine, but going backwards, it seems a bit jerky, although that has improved with running and a bit of tinkering. I’m not really that concerned about it anymore, but it’s still something m a little confused by considering the locomotive is mechanically fine. Oh, and the steamer above is an old East German made Piko from late 1986. The locomotives below include a Fleischmann German class E44 electric locomotive (the GN one) that was made in 1957 and a black Fleischmann Baldwin diesel from 1955. I love these locos about as much as you do, Chops. They’re great little locos.

Hi Frank. That's a gorgeous piece. I have the tail car for this set, but had no idea what it was until now. Thank you for posting!
I can't remember if I've posted this before (it's been a while since I've been on the forum), but it's something you'll recognize. I restored one of the Athearn RDC units you sold me a while back. I will get to the rest sooner or later!

It still needs a pair of horns and headlights, but it's 99%.

Won this on eBay recently. It seems to be factory paint. Any ideas? Haven't gotten the A unit to run yet, but the B unit runs.

Love those Sharks! I'm assuming that they were an early version of the decorated diecast Sharks, hence the paint job?

Thanks Frank! The body took maybe an hour of polishing? I don't remember now. I broke out the dremel for the really rough spots. The cabs were soaked in paint stripper and came out shiny without any extra work. The model is powered. The motor has been rebuilt and runs well.

Yes, I believe it is a very early Shark with factory paint. I think I remember one like this in the Mantua shop years ago.

You can clean those RDC's by bead blasting them with Baking Soda. There is also a product called "Never Dull". I used to use it on AF Aluminum pass cars to clean the metal. IIRC, the RDC use Athearn F7 horns.
