Great piece of Tyco history, Walt!

I find the choice of answers for the third question interesting...

WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE GIVER TO THE MAIN OWNER/USER?

PARENTS
GRANDPARENTS
BROTHER/SISTER
OTHER RELATIVE
FRIEND

Why would Tyco assume that their products would only be given to younger people as gifts?
Is this an unofficial company acknowledgement that they had given up marketing
to adult hobbyists making purchases for themselves? Also note that the warranty is only good
for three months , so let me get this straight, Tyco calculated that a product given
as a gift for Christmas would not survive long enough to to outlast the winter season?!
This is evidence supporting the theory that Tyco failed as a manufacturer of HO scale trains because
they intentionally abandoned the adult model railroader market in favor of making cheap disposable toys for children.

Technically....if you answered "#2 - Personal Purchase" to Question #2, then you could answer "Owner/User" for #7, and select your age/gender in questions #5 & #6.

On a serious note, judging by the logo on the warranty, I would estimate it to have come from the "Brown Box Era," which is when Tyco was bought-out by Consolidated Foods Inc, quality control depreciated, the PT motor was introduced, and the intended audience was directed more to kids than to serious model railroaders. In my opinion, Tyco's "Red Box Era" was really when they not only manufactured in the USA, but also dedicated themselves to both a child and adult model railroader audience, with the indestructible MU-2 style motor and realistic locomotives & rolling stock that last forever.

I'm not sure about when this warranty come in a set. I do remember that Tyco trains were always found in the toy section of a store. I had them since 1970 and have enjoyed having them 50 years ago and I enjoy them the same now. If these trains were cheap, disposable toys, the sure lasted much longer then the Tyco warranty expressed. I know as a kid I could sure damage some pieces as my train track was close to the edge of my table leaving many disappointing falls. I remedied that on my present layout and plan to have my Tyco trains as long as I'm around, although my Tyco warranty has long expired...
