Going Euro this week, I'm on board for that. A Play Craft Class 21 British Rail
I obtained in trade a few years back from a TFer. Traded up
a Tyco Johnson Wax Shark for this 00 gem.

My LOTW is a Soviet/East German M62 diesel H0 scale locomotive made in East Germany by Gützold in about 1971 (based on the date indicator on the sheet the model came with). I got it at a train show with a Roco German box car for only $40 total. She runs surprisingly nice for her age. It has a surprising amount of detail, and it even has directional lighting. While doing maintenance on it, I accidentally took apart the motor because of a couple of tabs holding it in came off (I was able to get it back together fine, don't worry). The motor reminds me of an Athearn drive, actually. It has the typical motor in the middle, two plastic tube things that mesh into a gear tower on either side of the motor. There are pickups on 4 out of 6 of the wheels on each truck (and they are very strong ones, too), which allows the locomotive to run surprisingly nicely. I love this guy. Something about the way the locomotive looks just screams brutal dictatorship, and I kinda like the aesthetic for some reason. The box it came with is completely demolished. It looks honestly like it was not stored in the best of places for a few decades. Otherwise, quite happy with this guy! Before I wrap up, though, I have to tell you guys something hilarious I found about this locomotive while holding it for the first time. I found out that the buffers are actually made out of rubber!

Purely East German AWESOME. It is curious that the engine bay
has so many windows, something I've not seen before- maybe
the occasional porthole. You'd better check this thing for
hidden microphones!!

Oh boy! I honestly LOVE Russian engines! I wonder if anybody makes a VL80.....

I'll have to show this to my friend Maverick. He loves Russian history!

And yes, make sure there's no microphone on there!

I’ve opened this thing up already. Didn’t find any microphones. But yeah, I absolutely love the look of this locomotive. I found out (according to Wikipedia) that North Korea bought these guys from East Germany after the reunification of Germany when the DB (West German railroad company) were getting rid of them. Apparently they bought them because of their lack of maintenance needed. They were also notoriously loud, which is why the Germans gave it the name “Stalin’s Last Revenge”. I have to say, though, the model is surprisingly hefty. There’s a lot of weight to it and it feels fairly sturdy.

Yes they did. I think they had them in red, too. These engines were built in the USSR for the entire Eastern Bloc basically. The Soviets used them, Poland used them, East Germany used them, Hungary used them, etc.

Nice Euro locos, Chops & Steve! I really want one of those German M62 diesels in N-Scale.
