Whoa! That Matchbox truck alone looks incredible, along with the Signal Tower. Very realistic work here.

Hi all It's been a while since i've done much yo the layout. I was doing some rebuilding of the bench work to change a curve to a 22 inch radius. When I added 6 inches to end of the layout it opened up the end of the layout for a new neighborhood. It's made using some Atlas, Woodland Scenics and Walthers houses I cut half.

And a short update Video.

Hello everyone I've been working on the layout again on the end by the neighborhood on the end behind the roundhouse. I was not sure what to with it for the longest time but i made the decision to use a GC laser pump house kit I got years ago when i was modeling the Great Northern. The pump house and some of their other small kits are based on Great Northern prototypes. So I got started on the kit and then ordered a Tichey water tower kit from Ebay in between steps on the kit I started plastering. painting and ballasting the track. I dont like to do more than a small section at a time so I warp my track and roadbed.
First i started building up parts with cork

Then slopped on some green latex paint from the returns bin at Walmart and added a parking lot to the 7-11

I did not get a lot done on my layout for a while now work has been busy. I started putting some scenery around the neighborhood and ballasting the track.

I have been doing some weathering of my non TYCO rolling stock most of these have some repair done.

Looking grimy, Bamos, which is to say great. Only Model Rail Heads can find beauty in dirt and rust. I like the tar stripes to that roof, also.

Nice job of scenery. Looking back at the old picture where the buildings are placed but the scenery isn't there yet, the buildings and track kind of look like something that just fell out of the sky and doesn't belong. With the grass and ballast in place, things really seem to belong. It's no longer a table full of things. It's a scene.

After a year of not touching the layout, I've decided to make some changes. I added a switch to make a larger loop. Switching was one thing the magazines said I wanted but it turned out I just like to run my trains In circles .
And I redid the crossing to add pedestrian access.

And the finished crossing. It still needs a crossing shanty. I want to build one like the TYCO animated crossing guard to put here that will match the one I got from Goodwill.

When I rebuilt Henley, one of my goals was to minimize switching on the mains. Switches tend to invite trouble, and I wanted things to run without having to go back in and endlessly tinker trying to get them right. Your road work is very impressive. Lot of frost heaves. I guess Joe's infrastructure money hasn't hit town yet.

Looks great! I understand the affinity for just watching the trains run! I'm not sure if it's been said already, but what was your technique for painting the roads?

These roads are styrene and I stipple several different grays on to add texture and then drybrush with a light grey. My next roads I'm going to do with mat board to add the texture as the painting is time consuming. And the weathering is just artist chalks. I find it easier to not over weather things without the fixative in the chalk.

Chops part of the problems were the switches. I had painted them, and it was causing power problems, so I am going through and stripping the paint from the closure rails and joints. They may not look realistic, but they operate much better.

I am also going around and lowering the grade crossings and moving my station and freight platforms further away from the track to make cleaning easier.

instead of cutting up nice models for background buildings you could use these flat buildings by Cat's Meow
the lighthouse on the left is a inland lighthouse at the local lake here built by the CCC

Thank you RP. The roofing tar is Dollar Tree puffy fabric paint. I had to stop on it to get some windows and details painted so since I was going to have the paint out I decided to work and some of the pickle cars. They weren't in very good shape when I bought them so I cleaned them up, made some repairs and scratch built some of the missing pieces.

Looks really great! The pickle plant has so much detail and is quite realistic looking. Also, I didn't know that is how pickles were transported.

Been Working On lighting the pickle factory and finished the salting platform.

I've also been working on some cars from Ebay. I had some old decals I wanted to use so I bought some junk cars, the pickle car i posted already. The old Microscale decals were breaking apart but I got there in the end

The lights are starting to come back on in town at the Depot. I made changes to the whole area. I made the depot modular and moved the whole thing back away from the track to make track cleaning easier. I also added the phone booth and relocated the light pole.

It's always great when one can make something on the cheap. It really adds a popcracklesnap to what your are doing. Since I don't run trains in the dark too much, I am hoping to insert a couple battery powered Tea Lights from Dollar General in some buildings for photographic enhancement.

Hello everyone. I finally had some time at the workbench. I'm on light duty at work until I can have surgery in 4 months for a bad hip.
I had sold some of my pre-made menards buildings to make room for some kits I had built. So the Walthers Bauer family pharmacy took its place, but with a few modifications . It's now the Fat Bunnie Yarn shop and I made it into a walk up apartment. It still needs some work done to it.
