In searching around on Google Images, I was led to this online article on the "Flashbak" website. Incredible archive photos taken at the Tyco Toy Factory located in Hong Kong, in 1976. In some shots you can see Power-Torque motors being assembled, while in others, Tyco slot cars and trains, as well as the workers that built them. Wow.

A very interesting post with several curious things: the rotary dial phone, the cigarette and ash tray, the rather battered look of the whole place, like it was sort of a low rent back shop, and the two Anglo guys. For them to function meant that either the former British colony descendants spoke enough English, or the two guys had translators and had taken to living abroad. I don't know much of the backstory, but Hong Kong took a lot of business out of the US with cheap labor, and now Red China seems to have surpassed us all. Red China, about that time, was generations behind the rest of the developed world having murdered most of their professional class in the "Cultural Revolution" back in the late 1960's.
Also note the complete absence of desk top computers- they didn't exist yet. Everything on paper.
How curious that Red China, where ox carts outnumbered automobiles, has surged to beating our collective asses. I am sure a number of my generation, in here, know exactly what I am talking about. How the worm turns...

Thanks Walt!
Yes, I agree, Chops...there certainly is a "ramshackle" appearance to the entire factory....but what I find the most interesting is not only the workers, but also the following:
- The GP20 locomotive shell blueprints that one worker is analyzing (I would pay a fortune to hang-up that piece of paper next to RETRO TYCO!) - Several "Midnight Special" Sharknoses newly placed in foam, lined up on a shelf - A Canadiana Alco C430 on the wall in one of the office scenes
Certainly interesting pieces of Tyco history...
UPDATE:
Thanks to searching on Google once more, I found yet another website that contained the same photos, save the following - of the exterior of the Tyco Factory in Hong Kong. (Photo credit to Original Photographer.) Amazing.

Good eye, I missed some of those details. Hey Busss, what is that white van in the foreground? It looks like a VW, but I am not familiar with that outline.
