I found this locomotive while browsing Ebay, it looked interesting so I snatched it up. Has anyone else seen a Tyco Warbonnet painted like this?....
My guess is that someone forgot to apply a masking jig to the bottom of this shell resulting in this Warbonnet with red pilot, stirrups, and fuel tank skirting. This model has a 2nd generation shell with Farr style grills and is equipped with a plastic MU-2 power truck. It is stamped "Made in Austria" on the bottom. My guess is that this model was made around 1975, just before the Power Torque was introduced.

Looks like you got yourself a unicorn, Srenchin! Nice get. I knew Tyco went to Hong Kong, but not Austria...Is it an AHM piece per chance?

It's definitely a Tyco product, here are some photos of the undercarriage....
Note the plastic MU-2 with screws!
Also note the loose headlight clamp floating above the rear of the front truck. It should be screwed in place in the nose, but there is no evidence that I can see that this was ever done. Maybe this model was assembled on a Monday morning or a Friday evening?

Another thing I noticed about this model is that all insulated plastic wheels are cracked...
I think the delrin plastic wheels must have shrunk around the axle to the point that the stress caused them to fracture.

Interesting find, Srenchin! You know what...I think I remember seeing this loco on Ebay....and ignored it. Glad to see it went to great home. Honestly, I think this "Tyco variant" is probably one of a kind!

As a follow-up....
Discovered this on Ebay tonight. This appears to be an auction containing a Tyco variant of the "Blue Bonnet" scheme including a yellow trim and numbers near the nose. Interesting, and I've seen several of these before on Ebay.
