Hello everyone. a number of you have asked to see more of my layout over the last few years I've been posting my buildings etc. Well I started a new area that does NOT connect into the existing layout. I calling it 'The Highway'. It's meant to be a Route 66 kind of display. There are no trains and I don't think any Tyco. It will be a 12 X 2 with a 4X2 L at one end. I've posted some of the buildings before, now they have a permanent home. Oh, and I'm really featuring lighting. There's still lots of details and the road need to be completed. Pictured here is the town the road exits to head toward motels, drive ins and farms.

This is very realistic. The night shots are nicely done. I can visualize this as part of a movie set where they have animated monsters/effects and more ...

The glare and the gloss makes for a "wet street after a city rain" effect. Very nice, really enhances what you have done here.

I am not an art expert, but I know what I like, and everyone has probably seen this magnificent work by Edward Hopper. Gary, like WKS, you are achieving a level of the fantastic, much like our friend WKS in your use of light and the absence of light, in a very distinct, personal way. Your photos capture the restless nature of the American spirit- traveling and going beyond the horizon- again and again. I spent a lot of time on Greyhound buses, back in the day, and seeing your great photos evokes not only memories, but bittersweet feelings of hope and of lonliness. Outstanding. ENCORE!
Upon a second study, the image of the police car, the ambulance, and the the background fire truck, enveloped in darkness, speaks of danger, dangerousness. It is stark and bold.

These photos are great, they show a lot. An easy story to be made from one of them.
Police report: "Theft at Mells dinner.": Witness at seen reports blue coup in Mell's Dinner parking lot has been
jacked up and rear end stollen.
The car owner just stepped in to Mell's for a cup of coffee and was out of his car only a
few minutes returning to find his rear end missing.
No one questioned reported seeing or hearing anything.
For this type of theft only one suspect comes to mind, The Notorious Pit Crew Gang !

Micro - My son went out of his way to find one with destination 'Chicago', our hometown. It was a Christmas gift.
Chops - Wow thanks for the praise, FYI I'm currently working right across the street from the museum Hopper's painting is in. You don't appreciate that it's almost life size until you see it in person. If you ever get to Chicago, don't miss the Art Institute. Toptrain, thanks also. You know I missed the car with the missing wheel when I took that shot. It amazes me what people read into my work.
Now for a personnel favorite.

Not much in terms of updates on the Fox Valley RR portion of my layout. I've been concentrating my work on the Highway. Hope to have this to about 90% by end of summer.

The goodies are erasers. The kids who have seen my work notice them as such immediately. Since some came in bags containing several I've been known to hand a few out as parting gifts. The Culvers is a great kit. I just can't get the roof to sit perfectly.

The Highway comes to completion. After starting on the tables it resides on before Christmas 2017, my highway scene has reached a completed state after almost two years work. Completed, but never finished. There are still things that need work and always further details to add, but for now my focus will move on to other projects. It’s been a lot of work but also a lot of fun. As always it ended up much different than my original vision but I’m rather proud of the way it came together. Thanks to my wife for insisting on making the currents to cover the underneath, it makes it all look so much more neat and professional. Over the next few days I'll give you a tour down the Highway. An overview of the entire project. Three 2 foot by 4 foot tables with a forth around the corner.
Next the Fire Station
Main Street
More to come...

Bamos and RP, Thanks. yes you see Legos and there are more of them that you don't see and a few you just might not recognize as such. For one, the tree planters on the street are upside down Legos. Much of the 'Miami' is also made of Legos. Now let's travel further down the Highway.

I passed on the similar GULF sign for the gas station because it looked a little tacky. The A&P would be no different. Besides there's no space for it. I would love to get one of Miller Engineering Rexall signs for the corner drug store. That may still happen even though wiring it in at this point will be a challenge

This is interesting structure and scenery modeling. Is it strictly for the enjoyment of the modeling or does it also represent some nostalgia for road trips in your past? Somehow, my mind ties it to the mystique that has grown up around old Route 66.
