While down around N&W territory last weekend in Crewe, VA, I hit a small antique store between Crewe and Blackstone, VA. Asked the guy if he had any model trains, or Railroadiana, and at first he said he had nothing at the moment. A few minutes later, while wandering around his store, he called out from his office that he DID have a few pieces left. Turns out he'd sold off the model train stuff, but had a small box of items up on his office shelf he'd forgotten about. In it were all kinds of train time capsule items - Some SCL, ACL, and even DC Transit lapel pins, the DC Transist had a couple of patches too. Also in this box was a small stack of Conductor business cards, I'd never seen nor heard of those before. Some pretty neat items from long ago!
I had also been going through some stack of old B&W photos, WWII era from France , and found a few with railroad content. The two amazing pictures I grabbed were of Chaumont, France, circa 1944. The photos are very crisp and sharp, not grainy or out of focus. Must have been a professional photographer covering the war back then.
At any rate, I ended up getting the box, pictures, and a Model T coil for $20. Not a bad haul. The only thing model train he had left was some Lioinel smoke pellets in a bottle. He threw that in as well. So, here's what i got :

A real blast from the past, literally with the bombing photos.

I think there might be a trolley museum in D.C. someplace & the patches would be a nice display there

I've spent some time over the last couple months scanning and digitizing all the various old railroad papers and documents I've collected (i.e. gleaned from flea markets, yard sales etc.), and among them was one business card for a B&O freight agent.
