I really like the direction Broadway Limited Imports/Precision Craft Models appears to be headed with its BlueLine series.
If you're not familiar, the BlueLine series just began with the re-issue of Broadway Limited's HO-scale SD40-2. Originally this model was offered with DCC and Sound factory installed and it then retailed for $249.99 in their "Paragon Series." Nice, but rather expensive. You could also buy their SD40-2 with no-DCC and no-Sound installed and it was $149.99 in the "Stealth Series." Either way, they were not cheap.
Now in the BlueLine, this same SD40-2 comes with factory installed Sound and is DCC-Ready for $169.99. This is nice as it allows you to put in your own DCC decoder, so you can pick one you like and are familiar with using. The model also is sound operable in DC-mode. When you figure you can buy a simple Digitrax decoder for $20...that makes your investment around $190 total for a DCC-Sound equipped example and that's retail priced.
Check out Broadway Limited's BlueLine section on their website to see the models coming soon...

This week, I found that the BLI F7 A-B's will go BlueLine at the end of this year... /tyco/forum/uploaded/Tony Cook/docscaboose-online_1956_5871511.gif
And early 2008, the BLI Alco FA-1/FB-1's go BlueLine too... /tyco/forum/uploaded/Tony Cook/docscaboose-online_1956_7800247.gif
The $169.99 price for DC-Sound equipped A-units applies to both releases. The DC-Sound equipped powered B-units will retail for $159.99. And they will do BlueLine A-B sets which are going to sell for $269.99...which brings 'em down to $135-each for DC-Sound. Not Bad.
