Does anybody remember the Marx Green Giant Valley Set? I finally got one. The yellow gondola is iridescent and my camera cant handle it. The car just glows. Maybe the plastic is from the White Sands proving grounds. frank

First time I've seen the entire set. Yes, that brilliant yellow almost hurts to look at, even from the screen. I am somewhat acquainted with White Sands, having survived some Basic Training out there. They open the Trinity Site once a year, though I've never been- quite a bit of glass out there, I am told, by little residual radiation, which I find surprising. Maybe it all ended up in the gondola!

Well Jeff, do your eyes glow at night, and do you never need a flashlight to see in the dark? Those abilities could actually be handy to have. Along with X-ray vision, and flying faster than a speeding bullet or is that a speeding train? Which did Superman have? I don't remember. I tell you, Jeff, I took at least 30 photos of that car and the others making at least 5 trips up to the layout and back down to the computer to edit them and really they all stink. You would figure that by accident I should have gotten one good picture. No, I got to choose the best of stinky photos I took. frank

A fairly clear picture, but I cannot read the name of the tender. Is it Monon?

The road name on the Gondola and the loco cab is GGVRR which in words is "Green Giant Valley Rail Road". The name on the tender, flat car, and caboose is "Valley Express". to further elaborate, like the PRR with Broadway Limited, or NYC, and 20th Century Limited. This is the GGVRR and its name train, the Valley Express.
Good things from the valley Valley of the Giant Ho Ho Ho Green Giant. frank

OK... Not sure if these qualify as a SOTW posting, but this was a recent purchase of a small collection of nearly 9,000 (~50 pounds) New Old Stock 1950's Laconia & Binkley embossed card-stock car sides...

I know I am going to sell some of them (most of them/all of them) but I really have no idea how yet.

Wow! You hit the mother load! They look like they rolled off the press yesterday! Beautiful vintage set, thank you for posting!
Yesterday I received these two marvelous Lima British carriages. They go nicely with this gnarly old Class 27 by Jeouf. The old beast is a model of early British dieselization, and is about as old. In spite of all the scars and scrapes, I greatly enjoy this chunk.

Obviously Micro... I plan to sell off as many of these as I can. I will certainly work up a reasonable package deal set of each for you. I will let you know when they come and we can work it out then.

Thanks Jeff. According to the seller, these "came from the estate of a Laconia worker who took them home when the company closed in the early 1960's". They are ALL new-old-stock and look to be in mint condition.
You just do not see things like this come up too often at all. I had to bid on them all. I kinda feel bad as I know who I outbid on all of them and thought I might just send him a bunch for free. Not much call for these things anymore, but I am sure some out there would like to get their hands on a few, considering their condition is as new as possbly can be.

Mustangs,
Nice haul! I've seen pictures of the card-stock sides, but never in person. FMI, I'm going to assume that these are glued to the side of a boxcar, but thought I'd ask. This is a nifty way to spruce up old, beat up rolling stock.
Thanks, Brian

Brian, These would have been glued to a wood superstructure. Basically the wood would consist of ends, roof and a floor. The embossed sides would have been glued on as well would have the embossed ends, if they had them.

Micro, (Ben I think)
There are three different Trivoli Beer sides. Numbers 5101, 5102, & 5103. There are 11 different sides all together.

Connor,
I think you are correct. A former employee aparently took these home after the shop doors closed. They look as fresh off the press as anything 60 years old can be. .
