Hello all.
I found this engine and partial coach at an antique store today. There Was no listed price on it, but the engine seems to be made of mostly brass, and fairly well made, so I picked it up for $27. I'm not sure of the gauge. Looks like it may be HO/OO, but it's got pizza cutter flanges like you wouldn't believe. Its definitely not a scale piece. My other thought is maybe it's TT gauge? There's no makers marks on it. There used to be a number on the cab but now only the "No." Is visible. It looks like it has an on/off switch inside the cab, so I'm guessing this thing ran on battery power. Any idea of the maker and age of this piece? Thanks much!

This is an interesting one for sure. Almost looks like a european style chassis. Does it run on HO track?

It's gauge is 14-15mm. I will run on the center and outside rail of O-27 track, so perhaps it is an early example of HO (a.k.a. Half- O)?
I found out it ran off of track power, and had an AC motor. However, the fiber board that holds one of the motor bearings was cracked, thus binding up the motor. The chassis, wheels, and gear tower, while old, are still usable. I will likely just re power it with a DC can motor. I will likely build some custom track for it using spare tubular rail from. O-27 track

Hey Frank Trix was my first thought but it didn't look like any of the imported stuff. It's definitely an interesting piece for sure

Dan nothin says I am right. I am wrong at times, most people are. I just do remember old Trix photos, showing ugly 0-4-0's with big Belpair fireboxes. So I think that is a Trix. The other 0-4-0's with Belpair's are HObbyline, John English, Bowser and imported brass ones. They all look good. Once in a while, I have seen the trix 0-4-0 at train shows. frank

Thanks all. I guess for now we'll go for labeling it an early Trix locomotive. Anyone have a photo of another or a scan of a catalog that lists this engine?
Thanks again.
