I received today 2 Southern Pulwood cars and a couple of questions came to mind. Are they the same basic cars as the piggyback and culvert cars etc? They are fairly common? I bought them for a project in which they'll both get cut up. One was Mantua and the other was Tyco but look mostly identical. The Tyco had a cheaper wheel and axle and the Mantua had a more detaled wheel with fins on the inside and a metal axle and they rolled better than the Tycos. I think the Mantua wheels might roll better and create less friction as well as the Walthers axles I mentioned in another post. quote:What are some good replacements for Tyco wheelsets? Not necessarily the entire trucks, but just the axles? Originally posted by GoingInCirclez, May 05 2007

PS: I'd like to see a train made up of these cars. I'm from a papermill town but I think most wood came on trucks.

| I'm looking for recommendations for a drop in axle set for mine also. I got two, one marked for the Great Northern the other for the Southern in that freebie lot last week. From what I've found, these were the only two roadnames Tyco offered. I plan on doing my usual Kadee modifications and adding weight as well.

I have only replaced wheels on my So76 caboose. I just found the card that the 36" wheelset 4 pack was attached to and it was Walthers 933-383. 4 for $3.00. These work perfectly without modifications. But I think the Mantua axles on my pulpwood car seem to allow it to roll as freely as the replacement axles on the caboose. The replacements might add a little extra weight which is nice.

Hey gents, this just ended on the 'bay. Is it of any significance? I forgot about the auction. It had a piece of the fishbelly missing on the other side and the brake wheel. I hadn't seen one before.

I have one of those, too. 'Nother freebie left for this buzzard to pickup. I put kadees on it and a set of Intermountain wheelsets. You can see it several times in the long train rollbys in my video. One of my favorite cars, it was so dirty on the deck with a sawdust like something I left it alone.
