Back in the late 80's I witnessed first hand an American Flyer Missouri Pacific Pass Set Box sell for $1k cash.
If I wasn't there to see it I wouldn't have believed it.....

That set box though is probably just short of the Sohio or Cities Service sets in rarity. The last complete set I saw sell went for just under $4000...
