Ok Guys;
time to get to posting your pick of the week from your motive power roster!
Please add a little info if possile about the prototype or your particular model!
Mine this week is a "PT" poweered Tyco Switcher in a Canada market only presumably; Canadian Pacific Yellow! It actually was part of a set which included a matching Caboose and a few ubiquitous Tyco cars. See the last picture.

Mine is the Tyco GG1. As one who grew up near the Baltimore/Washington Corridor next to these beasties, I never in my life would have thought to want one of these uglies. They were a hoot when they first came out. Now, it kinda reminds me of my great-aunt and her '55 Caddy. I forked over $20 for it at a local flea market...$9.99 was the going rate at one time...sigh...I thought wisdom came with age. Oh well...least it was mint in box.[:D]

Real Nice "GG"
I kinda like them myself. My Mom used to say "It's so ugly it's cute." I think that fits here!
Thanks for chipping in this week, appreciate the effort.

You're welcome...I really enjoy it. Is it limited to Tycos? I've got everything from Athearn to Jeuof...Tyco being a fairly recent phenomenon to me[:D]

Nope no Tyco restriction, as long as you have it or had it and it's a model train.

This week I chose my President's Choice (by Mehano) 4-6-2 CP Pacific Steam Locomotive. It came in PC set #7 "The Pacific Express", which was released for Xmas 1999. It included 5 tankers and a caboose (seen in second pic). I got it for Xmas 2000. It was my first train set.

For my first post in this topic, I'll post the first loco that I ever owned (albeit somewhat indirectly):

The Lionel GP30 was new around the time I was born, and the BN example is the most common. It was included in the popular "Burlington 181" set, which my dad bought when I could barely crawl. The set was a big affair with a boxcar, hopper, gondola, coil car, tri-dome tank and caboose. Our particular example is somewhat noteworthy for featuring all-lionel tooled cars (most had a Kader boxcar and/or hopper)) AND having a Rio Grande hopper instead of a gon. Plus, in homage to the eau de papa, my mom bought a Tyco Old Spice boxcar to add to the set.
I can barely remember it being set up under the Christmas tree the first few years before I got ahold of it... toddlers & HO on the floor don't mix, and the tank car was a casualty. The loco llost a few bits too, and soon the set was mothballed for good.

In middle school I finally convinced him to let me have the old set, and was disappointed to find that the loco ran like crap. Which is characteristic of most Kader-cake drives.
When it was introduced, this model was a godsend that finally banished the viasges (but not the memories) of Athearn's famously horrible attempt of 15 years earlier. Kader continues to run the tooling for Bachmann today, with a few upgrades, although it looks decidedly dated.

The example pictured above is not the original from my old set, although I do have that loco... severely modified. The rest of the survivors are also here, and I recovered the tank car on ebay.

Just out of curiosity, and please forgive me if this was covered elsewhere, but is the Tyco Plymouth switcher the same tooling as the later Bachmann offering? I've owned 3 of these from different manufacturers and all looked the same to me except for the motoring.

I would have listed the Tuscan GG1 since I just received my first. I have no instructions and I'm wondering how to raise the pantographs? Mine was mint. PS: I consider the GP-30 a crowd pleaser, no? That is at least the original EMD design is.

You tip the shoes fore and aft slightly and they will come up. Reverse it to lock them down. They're actually quite nice for a Tyco issue. I think mine has its paper work, if it does, I'll scan you a set if you'd like.

Good Question and one I've pondered myself. I have examples of the '70s TYCO and currently offered Bachmann Plymouth MDT's and need to compare them. Also wondered if the tooling matched AHM's Plymouth switcher too?
I'll look at mine and post back in the next couple days. Anybody know this one or have pics of the TYCO-Bachmann-AHM switchers?

How about Con-Cor's short-lived early 1970's Alco PA? Have this ATSF example...

Also have a cool cascade-green Burlington Northern example. Think this was in Con-Cor's line around 1970-71...and they got nailed by the better example from Athearn that came out then too.
Have seen reference to Con-Cor possibly having a PB-1, but have never seen one in the flesh and it may have never been released.
