While saving off waw's information about Gilbert HO, I stumbled across this in my archives and thought I'd post it. The sheer quantity of coupler styles and variations is amazing.

Very cool picture! What's even more amazing is there are lots more couplers not even shown. If one ever wanted a challenge, try collecting HO couplers...

pretty cool
the 1954 Varney looks more like a European style coupler
Which even now is still used

I did read in a train magazine where a real shortline used real 1:1 Kadee magnetic couplers & magnets on the rails
well it did work but crazy things happened

Excellent post. I'm a little surprised the MDC couplers aren't represented though.
I'm old enough to remember layout artcles in magazines where several of those coupler types were still in use!

This is a dig-up but I don't care.
I have a number of those 1950-issue Kadees or similar. They came attached to the lot of old Athearn streamline cars I got a couple years ago.

I have this saved to my laptop because I refer to it at least once a month In disassembling older models and sorting out salvaged parts stockpiles, I have found at least a few types not in this image. Will have to dig out my box I keep them all in sometime and make an addendum to this

PRR 4800,

Glad this came in handy. Here is a thought. Why not add the new couplers to the list and send back out?
