My loco is a 1980 Mantua Mogul in yellow and black livery for my Trail Blazers passenger construct. I got it as a "parts or repair" on eBay.
As I received it.
Restored loco.

Ok. Since I still haven't found enough "old time" figures, you'll still get your request, top.

My LOTW offering is a NWSL HO 20-Ton Class-B DUNKIRK 2-Truck Shay Locomotive
I need to find truck parts for it, but I suppose that may not be too difficult... I hope:

My LOTW is this Tyco Southern Pacific GP20. I like that gothic font, even though it was not used on many SP locos. The handrails need a bit of work.

That Mantua Mogul is a show stopper. Magnificent restore.
I'm going to have double dip this week, both these locomotives, the head end Athearn BB Geep 40 and the AHM classic Geep 40 which ran about six hours non-stop at the train show and never faltered, even though they both got hot pulling a thirty plus string of Tyco Billboards, and the AHM ate her traction tires down to shreds!

Thanks chops. Since you did the first DD, I think I'll do one also. This is another Mantua 2-6-0 mogul that I got on eBay. It is the 1957 version.
As received:

Now, if I can just find the 1952 version....

What do you mean by the 1952 version? I have one with a brass chassis and I think is an earlier version. Might that be what you are referring to?
Love the old Moguls by the way!

That is the one I'm referring to. This one is the design before they started using the boiler from the 4-6-0 and 4-8-0 locos.

George, I believe you have all versions of the boiler. Must be some semantics issue here. The 4-6-0 and 4-8-0 Dixie Bells are all plastic boilers, but I'm guessin' you already knew that. The Mogul (2-6-0) brass boiler is the same as the Belle of the 80's (4-4-0) brass boiler. I could be mistaken, but I'm guessing these same boilers were used for those locomotives all through their production years. Least wise of photographs I've seen. The plastic bodied Mogul 2-6-0 uses a boiler that is essentially the same as the Dixie Bell.

Barry. if you'll go to HOSeeker, Mantua, Steam Engines, look at the 1980 Mogul and compare the boiler with those of the 4-6-0 Ten Wheeler and the 4-8-0 Twelve wheeler. It is essentially the same boiler with some very minor alterations.
Now, the Eight Ball from 1957 and the Mogul from 1952 do have the same boiler as the Belle of the 80s from 1946 and 1952, but in 1980 they changed the boiler to the plastic one.

Oldtimer.. Barry is correct. The boilers for the 4-6-0 Ten Wheeler and the 4-8-0 Twelve wheeler were plastic and were never brass.
Here is an old pic of some of mine..
I can tell you, the only differences I have seen are the early models will have the brass frame and the tender will have a round water hatch. I have had only one tender like this pass through my hands and only one brass frame. I've owned dozens of the Mogul and Belle. Mantua never made any longer models in the brass and diecast format. I have this kitbash 2-6-2 Prairie that someone made using a combination of two Moguls, but that's the closest I have seen to anything longer.

Ok. The version of the Mogul that I am looking for is the one with the BRASS frame. I have the one with the cast frame and brass boiler and the one with the cast frame and the plastic boiler. So, I still need 1 more Mogul to have all three that Mantua made thru the years.
In 1952: brass frame and brass boiler(like the Belle of the 80s one). I need this one.
In 1957: went to a CAST frame and brass boiler(like the belle of the 80s one).
In 1980: went to the plastic boiler that they were using for the 10-wheeler and 12-wheelers. They made two domes and the smokestack that fit over the dome/stack casting on the boiler then added another dome and moved the bell back a little bit.
The key here is the FRAME that I am looking for, not the boiler type. As Mustang said, it is the rarest of the bunch.

In 1980, they changed the Mogul completely.
This is the 1980 version of the Mogul. Notice the body on it? The frame has the drivers spaced evenly as opposed to the rear driver being farther back on the 4-6-0 and 4-8-0. However, the bodies are almost identical.
Now, here is the manual for the 4-6-0:
This shows that the Mantua 2-6-0 Mogul had 2 different body styles during their production. The brass boilers were used in the early production and the plastic one in the last production of the mogul.
