This is my set of stock cars. I never actually bought one, they typically ended up in a lot with other things I was after. At first I hated them. I had them in a box on a shelf and figured sooner or later I'd use them for parts, particularly as the trucks were all different and eventually I'd end up with a need for a hard to fit truck. That, or I'd ship them off to Old Grabby Paws just so someone would enjoy them.
On a whim I took them over to Stan's layout (Somewhere West of Boulder, Episode I) and filmed them. I then noticed that these puppy's don't derail. I'd drag them over rough track, or shunt them backwards around curves and they stuck like glue. Next thing I noticed is that some are low, some are tall, and some have peculiar colors like a blue roof on a bright orange body, and some had that cheezy chunkiness I am so fond of. Now I'd sooner snip off my little finger than part with this little set.
That led me to whipping up this six minute viddy. Six minutes. Filmed on three layouts over three weeks with about ten hours of filming, and another ten hours of computer face time slowly trimming down the footage into a brief video play, as when the unforgettable John Armstrong told us, "Trains are the actors on a stage."
Truth be told, it is much harder to create a two minute video, my usual goal, than a six minute video, because I have to keep whacking off really good footage because it just doesn't quite move the story along. And there is never been a video yet where I didn't end up wishing I'd done this or done that.
I'm a bit over the top, and told as much on more than one occasion, but in the words of the immortal Waylon Jennings, "I've always been crazy, but it's kept me from going insane..." (Maybe I shouldn't be so sure).
Anyways, hope you enjoy it. I enjoyed making it. I'd encourage other TFer's to try a little video of their own, too.

I'll add a little more Varney to the thread. This is an all-metal Varney set from the mid 1950's.

Chops, I think I've eaten in that place. Had to order out pizza so as not to succumb to starvation before my food came.

I'd surely like to see a video of that running. It doesn't say, is it HO? It is fabulous you were able to save this old lovely for so long. I got one goods wagon (car) from a Wrenn wind up set from 1966 when my family lived in England for a year, and my older brother gave me his Lionel stuff from when I was about 4 years old and he was maybe 9. It all works great, and the Lionel Scout was a cheapo model used for window displays at Woolworth's, and it still runs good.
