Does anyone know if another manufacturer used the molds from the Lionel HO steam locomotives? I would think somewhere down the line within the last 30 years somebody would have. A lone amature built the ark! A large group of professionals built the titanic!

Are you talking about the '60s Lionel-HO steamers?
The '70s line only had the Kader-made GS-4, which today survives in the Bachmann line.
I think the '60s Lionel-HO steam engines may have been Rivarossi-made, but I'm not certain. Tony Cook HO-Scale Trains Resource http://ho-scaletrains.net

I don't know about the older run of Lionel HO. I think they did manage to miniaturize one of their traditional O-scale steamers but I am unsure.
The dirty (no-so) secret about Lionel HO is that very little of it was their own. They were the masters of outsourcing... in the 50-60's it was from Athearn and Rivarossi while the 70's saw Kader, Pola, and Roco/AHM. It would not surprise me therefore if at least one classic steamer was outsourced... but again I do not know for sure.
Ironically when Lionel put the effort into their own stuff, it was usually quite good!

The 1959-1966 Lionel Steam Engines were based on the Hobbyline molds. Some of Lionel's Freight cars were also using Hobbyline Molds Earlier Steam Engines were Rivarossi and Athearn. Numquam Immoderatio Satis Est (Too Much Is Never Enough )
