Cool set, Chops! It reminds me of something off the old Thomas the Tank Engine episodes.
Here's a vintage OK streamliner consist. It needs work but seems like a good starting point for a project.

** Back in 2014 at the New York Society of Model Engineers open house in November, I took this picture of a train set on their layout. A very unique set it was. An Excursion train from Disney Land. I should have gotten a close up. frank

Nice. I have to say, I would love to have some more of those to match my dome car (which is probably the worst of the OK cars, but still nice to have)

Those OK aluminum passenger cars clean/polish up very nice. Any ideas on the roadname/RR you plan to pain them in?

Frank! Love the clowns!! I see that NH DL109 peeking out from behind the crowd of clowns! Very nice indeed!
Good friend of mine has a genuine fear of clowns! I love to occasionally post a good clown pic on his FB page!

Not a clue yet. I'd like to have a good amount of the bodies left bare metal with just the window band painted. That limits me a little if I'm going for something prototypical, but I'll likely just use some artistic license. Any tips on polishing the metal?

That looks awesome! I've seen so many OK cars in half-finished states or with nothing but decals applied to bare metal, it's nice to see a painted set. Looking at pictures on google, the OK cars actually resemble the Texas Special cars (corrugated sides with smooth window band).

Most fluted-side cars had smooth window bands :p
I would imagine that most OK cars are left bare metal because they're playing the role of ATSF, NYC, or Zephyr cars

On most of the models I have the window band is smooth, as well as the area above the windows (for striping, lettering, etc.). On the OK streamliners the area immediately above and below the windows are corrugated/fluted. This makes it slightly more difficult to letter/paint anywhere but the window band. Some of the cars I have have had name plates glued in place to allow for road name decals above the windows.
I'll make it work.

I think at least some runs of the OK kits actually had aluminum strips for that very purpose. But it's not exactly hard to find sheet aluminum in this country. It comes in very handy rolled cylinder form, and can be cut with scissors.
You're right that most models come with name and number boards built into the sides, but then most models are injection-molded plastic rather than extruded metal.

My first thought when I got an Kasiner car, was "Hey, I can use rubber cement, and interchange the road names" Of course, I haven't done any of that yet, but I will. One day. Just now, I've seen something I can't un-see. KCS 1949 Southern Belle
This article was in 2001 Mainline Modeler, which I picked at random from a pile. I'm doomed to follow up on this. Great! Another open-ended project.

Eric Regarding polishing the OK cars. I've had great results from AutoSol. You can get this at Home Hardware, Canadian Tire, etc. I use pieces of short pile carpet, about 2 inches square, soaked with AutoSol. The fibers really get into most of the grooves. Even after the goo gets dark, just keep polishing. When its mostl;y dried up, buff clean with old t-shirts or socks.(even underwear!) Yes, they do have an after-life. Evan

Thanks Evan, I'll give it a shot! Gorgeous car by the way, I wish I'd had the chance to ride a train like that.
