No, it is a very expensive Athearn set; as a matter of fact, it was there very first set and it is very sought after. I had my eBay set to find it for years, but I finally stopped and now look what happens.

The seller appears to be a picker. The auction was a "Buy It Now" auction. The shipping was $7.35.
The buyer was lucky, in the right place at the right time. My guess is that the auction ended very quickly, in minutes.

Today I learn something new! Very interesting set indeed. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for one. I didn't realize Athearn even had "rare" trains. Any other super rare Athearn stuff I should be aware of? Also it's best to constantly check the newly listed items under whatever you're looking for. If you tell eBay to let you know when whatever item you want is listed they'll usually do it after a day.

No, definitely not. Shipping was pretty average for a set like that - he probably lost money on it.

I cannot believe that deal, that set was like finding a unicorn.

It appears my original estimate was close! Ended up going for $257! Personally not a bad price considering it's rarity. Whoever got it, I'm sure they're happy.
