I have one of these beauts. I got it at a train show for dirt cheap with a Crown HO caboose last year for $12. To answer your question, I live within an hour drive from the Canadian border, so I would assume it's fairly common in Canada.

Nice GS-4 there, kristofer. Lovely mechanism when it's intact, you may want to reinforce the axles to make sure that it stays that way.

Nice score, Kristofer! I see it sits upon the old fiber tie track. That stuff is notorious for warping when applying glue-water for ballast, btw.

| Thanks for the comments guys! I don't plan on doing any work to it as I don't plan on running much. Whenever I run trains I normally use E-Z Lock track from Bachmann.

Thanks steve. With NJ one state away from Canada on occasion a real CP loco will appear on a N&W train once in a while. What I recently seen was a Revell F7a and a caboose both factory painted by Revell. I haven't seen them at any train shows yet. I wonder if they made a SW7 also? For me in Jersey it takes a trip to Buffalo on the western branch of the NY thruway, or a trip all the way up the northern branch of the thruway. Possibly 3 or 4 Hours.

Sean I like the purchase. United did some smart things with a motor shaft being held in place keeping the gearing properly aligned. Gears last longer this way and you also can run slower easier. Then they did not enclose the bottom gear. This is good and bad. This is very good for lubing the gear tower without taking the tower apart. BUT they say you also now can pick up ballast and jam the gears. I like it open. I have intentionally open most of my enclosed lower gears to allow for lubing and have not experienced this problem ever on my own locomotives. I guess my ballast being not there cant cause any problems, or just keep the ballast glued down solidly. * Nice two window cabooses. And you got two of them, They look a lot like MDC ones. I think so is the gondola and that rare bird T&P factory painted stock car. All the old MDC metal line. Frank

Look what the postman brought in! Starting life as an undecorated Atlas Alco RS-1, this locomotive received a custom paint job from it's previous owner. It's in great shape, though I don't know if it runs, and currently don't have a way to test it. Included in the box with the instructions and warranty card was a hand-written note quoting the book "Kansas City Southern: Route Of The Southern Bell" by Terry Lynch & W.D. Caileff, Jr. Said note explained the paint scheme. Here's the note in full.
"KCS had 4 RS1s built in 1943, lettered 1110-1113. Some of them, such as 1112 were painted an all red scheme, w/ heralds on cab sides & K.C.S. spelled out on the hood. This scheme was known as the "Deramus Scheme" after 1961-Wm Deramus III, railroad president.
"Kansas City Southern Route" by Lynch & Caileff""
Did I mention I got this for $13 shipped?
sim-al2 Also since they cut track maintaince the trains had huge trouble making over the railroad by the end 純那 yeah They did a Rock Island volountarily

Glad to hear it's a great runner. I'm surprised I got it as cheap as I did, it's not like some new post I caught immediately. I saw it a bit ago, but seeing how cheap the current bid (Something like $1.65) was at, and how much longer it had left, I assumed it'd get bid up to the point where it was just as expensive as the buy it nows. Days later, I was back on eBay... and it was still there, at the original bid, with 3 hours left. Decided to throw a bid in and won it.

Eh, maybe a split gear. Lotta guys here can fix it up if you need the hand. I hear say some of the Proto series had a wicked bad problem with bad drive shaft gears.
