They are riveted together, as I am sure you know. What drill bit do I need to use to get it apart and replace it?

I use any size from 1/8 inch on down, I'm not driling THROUGH it, just taking the splayed part off so I can remove the rivet. Some guys just pry it apart, but I don't like to do that. If you want to tap it for a threaded screw, you can go with the standard 2-56, or get the smaller 0-80 or 1-72 size ( Kadee sells those drill and tap sets ).

Horn Hooks 4evuh! Thanks for the tip, never the less- I have to open up some MU 2's for servicing and
wasn't sure how to proceed. Thanks!!

BTW, I got one MU2 that won't turn. Are these things repairable, or should I just pitch it and put
in another?

Thanks. I'll probably just go horn hooks(because that's what the majority of my blue box rolling stock is lol.)

Also Chops, as I said you'll have to drill out those rivets to be able to get to them. Once you do that you have access to the gears and motor. I would recommend doing that first before buying another MU-2.

Anything is repairable, depending on condition. I worked on a customer's MU-2, it lost a copper brush pad on the armature, THAT one was not repairable , it locked up the armature as the brush fell into the "pit" it occupied formerly. Could just need the bearings oiled, old grease removed from the end worm gears, etc. All depends on why it's locked up. Rust? Long as the major parts aren't damaged, it may can be freed up to run again. Soak the end bushing bearings in oil or penetrating oil, if the armature won't turn, then replace with regular oil if it frees it up then. There's only two reasons it won't turn - dried up grease, or the bearings are so dry the armature shafts are frozen. Or possibly a bent armature , but that's rather hard to do, encased as it is. Good luck with it. Edit - it also could be the axles in the truck are frozen, too, but that's a rare thing to happen with an MU-2 that I've seen. Never seen one do it.
