Got this and the gondola behind it at an antique shop for $2. Have been trying to get it to run. At another shop, someone is trying to sell tyco cars at $15 a piece, Rivarossi Berkshires for $295, and a BL-2 like the one below for $65. Crazy.

Cool deal. I've notice that about antique shops; not many bargains.

My Loco of the week is this customized Athearn PA. It is very nice and it is has huge flywheels for lower take off speeds.

That was a pretty good score for being in an antique shop. They are normally out of their minds
on pricing stuff.

This weeks loco is a Mantua Big 6 that I listed back on Aug 6 as I received it. It finally got out
of the shop and is awaiting the finishing decaling.

I ran out of PRR decals and had to order some more(old age and brain farts). It has turned out to
be a surprisingly good running little loco. Motor is very quiet and it pulls 8 freight cars rather
easily.

Athearn Uboat doing the rounds.

That BL2, one of my favorite locomotives, might have a split gear. A production run of
AHM BL2's were notorious for that, so I'm told. Motor whines and nothing moves?
Likely, then, a split pinion gear. Tyco is even worse for that.

The motor wines and nothing moves in forwards, but if I turn the motor it starts moving. Its very loud in reverse and I can see sparks at the top of the motor. Will clean the contacts and look at the gears.

Love those Big-sixes. And Little-sixes too. Speaking of 0-6-0s, here is one of my favorites, a recent release from Rivarossi.

Nice looking Big 6 oldtimer!

I have a question, what's the driver diameter on that? I'm sourcing for a project and I'm looking for 53" or thereabouts drivers.

$2 for that BL2 is a steal, even if it doesn't run 100%.

I just measured some Big 6 drivers. The old kind with pizza cutter flanges have a 50" diameter at the tread. The new kind with the RP25 style flanges are 52".

Awesome! That'll be just about perfect!

Now to find a pair of basket case Little Six's, lol

Now back on topic... My LOTW is the IHC/Mehano 2-8-2 from my recent President's Choice acquisition. Had one years ago when they came out. Long ago sold it, but I'm rebuilding my roster slowly and surely.

I would guess that the antique dealer really doesn't know what the items are worth. Some antique shops do charge a lot for most of the items in there shop. There are too many second hand stores, that think they are antique shops.

$2 for a Bl-2 is a steal. Does it have the 3 pole or 5 pole enclosed motor? The early 5 pole motors are much better runners. I probably have about 15 of these engines by AHM. Plus a few P2k Life-Like versions. I just acquired a Willaims O gauge BL-2 week before last for $50 through my shop. I love the red and black RI scheme. I've been wanting an O gauge version, but didn't want to spend $150 on one I've seen on Ebay and the web. This one has some amateur detailing issues that didn't bother me, so I bought it. :)

The neat thing about your BL 2 is that the real one is still running. Ive got about 20 of those old beauties still, and enough spare parts to keep them going for a hundred years. Let me know if you need something, I'll fix you up.
