My COTW is this LifeLike Canadian Pacific mechanical refrigerator:
I got it from the Canadian Pacific. Years ago, I was riding on a steamboat down the Illinois River and struck up an acquaintance with a sales rep. from the CP. He ended up sending me some promotional material including the car, a booklet about the CP and a map of railroads in North America.
The car had truck mounted couplers that interfered with the ability of the trucks to pitch upward when starting up a hill, so I converted it to body mounted couplers. I also swapped out the wheelsets for ones with flanges that dealt more gracefully with the guard rails on turnouts. The car is not a very good fit for my layout, but for sentimental reasons, I keep it around and was willing to do the modifications mentioned here.

This week's submission for me is this unusual boxcar. I'm not familiar with Crosley, obviously not a Mid-Atlantic company in Virginia. I liked the name, though, so I bought it.

As it says on the boxcar, they made Radios and Televisions. I was not aware of the wash machines. They also made record players. For a time, they also made automobiles. They were really small cars that got impressive gas mileage for the time.
If memory serves, their televisions may have been among the last of the U.S. made T.V.'s on the market.

Ya know, I had a feeling when I saw Crosley on it, if it was somehow related to the 1940's and 50's Crosley automobile. That it is is really perfect for me. :) I just HAD that feeling...

Looks like my memory didn't serve. Now that you say it, I see that I got the names confused. Part of what I like about this forum is the combined wealth of odd knowledge gathered in one place.

I got this from my great aunt Lily Mae's estate many years ago. I honestly forgot I had it until a few minutes ago. Old Geezer syndrome , I guess.
Apparently, the red ones are the most sought-after. This one is a lowly maroon. Evan

Cool Crosley car. There was a Crosley Television building in San Francisco that appears in many many railroad photos because it was just behind the SP mainline curve leading into the first tunnel and that was a favorite spot to capture commutes and Daylights. It looks like it received boxcars at its loading dock.

(Sorry about the text over the picture... I was in a hurry and couldn't find a better example)

The Crosley Television building is long gone. The curved tracks are now in the shadow of an elevated freeway and the old Mission Bay railroad yard is now a complex of medical buildings. Other than Caltrain and the tiny SF bay RR, there are very few RR tracks left in San Francisco.
Here is a photo in approximately the same location today.
