Wished this one was in better shape, I found this at Timonium show, one guy always has 2 or 3 tables of 2-3 dollar cars. I have several O gauge marx bi-levels that I have found I can fit my Tootsietoy Gremlin cars on. But this is my first HO scale Marx bi-level. Might try to restore it some with some plastic sprue someday.

My COTW is a Mantua/Tyco Swift Refrigerator Car:

It was part of the original train set that started it all, back on Christmas of 1970. At the time, it was the derailment king and fell into disuse. Parts were cannibalized so that it was missing a brake wheel and had LifeLike trucks rather than the originals.
My last project, using the body off of a Power Torque Tyco 0-6-0 tender, ended with a pair of leftover Tyco Trucks. Intermountain metal wheelsets are a drop-in fit for those, so I converted to metal wheels and removed the truck mounted couplers, replacing them with body mounted ones:

I had a supply of brake wheels, one of which fit this car after I drilled the mounting hole deeper. I painted the brake wheel to match the car, and gave the whole car a light wash of thinned black paint. If you look at cars on a coal-fired steam-powered railroad, they have a faint black patina. The car had filled-in stirrup steps, so I painted the filled in part black to make it less apparent. The final result shows in this shot:

I've tested the car around the layout in a long train to subject it to a lot of dynamic forces and it now holds the rails pretty well. It's nice to have one of the originals back in service and holding its own among the other models on the layout.

Your car looks great Don. I have two like that. I need to take them out and weather them like you did.
