This was a basket case Tyco shifter that I recently recieved. (thanks to Hypoponera and obtrey)
The drive train was rebuilt, the shells repaired and painted, KD couplers installed on the pilot and tender and wipers installed on all the tender wheels to improve preformance.

I know it sure didn't look like that when you got it.
I am anxiuosly awaiting some results from Hypoponera on how he used some of the other parts.
I just stopped trying to rebuild things when the kids got older and didn't show interest anymore. That pic of yours brings back fond memories of some of the parts I used to sit down with at night when the house was quiet and I could concentrate on what I was doing.
Happy to see the parts are being put to GOOD use.
Nice job, Ray

L/L did have a similar locomotive.
It was also sold under the Model Power name also.
These can be differenciated from the Tyco by the back of the cab being fully enclosed. The Tyco has an open back on the cab.
Lima made another one It may have been sold under the AHM name.
I have a few of the L/L 0-4-0 locos. They aren't to bad, they run better with some tweeking. (I added electrical pick-ups on the tenders).

Is this considered an open back? I don't understand what you have written. Little help here....
