Been awhile since I picked up this dusty ol' diesel. I think it has a Globe drive, two trucks with rubber tubes and a metal rod between them. AT any rate , a black golden oldie.

I thought this girl had its set, Micro. I might have a line on a set of talgo cars for this. Let me get back to you on that...from Diana's estate sale: I saw two sets of triples with no head end power- kind of like a headless snake. I will have to go to her place and check. I believe they were in very good condition. Not sure of the maker. I just kind of glanced at them, but I know where they are.

My LOTW is an Airfix Fowler I got at a train show last year.

This week is a surprise that I found on ebay back in February. It was listed as a Hallmark 4-4-0.
After a quick trip to the cleaning booth, .
Now I'm not so sure that it is a Hallmark brand. The front truck is like the ones that United used. However, for $40, who's gonna complain?

My submission for LOTW. It is one of six ex ATSF CF7's painted for my HO railroad (currently being rebuilt). The shell and chassis is by Rail Power Products. I started these before Athern bought them out. I included a bare unit to show what I started with. Jim

Thanks. I always keep an eye out for these as they are, a lot of times, mis-labelled.
I use a variety of strippers, depending on the type of paint on the model. The one I use most is Super Clean (Wal Mart, purple bottle) de-greaser. It is water soluable and has, so far, stripped just about everything I've used it on (enamel, acrylic, etc). I use hot water to rinse and then do a alcohol bath as a finish clean.

Additional note about Super Clean: It does a real bang up job on plastic and DOES NOT damage the plastic at all.

That 4-4-0 is cute as a button with that diamond stack. How does it run? That Michigan Central piece is enviable. Steven, are you sure you don't want a nice New in Box Mantua center cab for that Airfix??

Chops124, thank you for the kind words about my Michigan Central unit. I still have two more to do. My grandfather worked for the real MCRR. As for paint strippers, I too use the purple stuff from wallyworld. I have also used pine-sol and brake fluid.

Thanks Chops. I'm having to "redo" some previous owner assembly misstakes on the 4-4-0. He made a few mistakes in assembling the drivers and rods and I'm having to correct them. It looks like I'm gonna have to paint it tho. Way too much solder was used and it really doesn't look right.
The Super Clean is really good stuff, and safe to boot. The only things I haven't been able to strip with it is baked enamel and chemically blackened metal.

Those are actually not Varney Aerotrain cars but something even less common - two sets of cars from the original Tyco Talgo, repainted from blue and yellow to match the Aerotrain. They truly are articulated, while the Aerotrain cars were individual four-wheel coaches.
Also, Bowser is currently selling off NEW OLD STOCK AEROTRAIN SHELLS AND PARTS on their Fire Sale page. If anyone wants to build a new Varney Aerotrain, this is probably the last opportunity there will ever be to do so. To my knowledge all necessary stuff is available except for the loco frame/mechanism, but that need can probably be filled with a sliced up Athearn SW frame just like in the real one. Back off the Pennsy shells though - they're mine!
