I've been looking at numerous track plans trying to decide on which would fit a spare bedroom in my house. I decided I didn't really want to go with a traditional 4x8 and wanted more of a shelf style layout. Well I think I found what I want. Apparently this track plan has proven quite popular and there is even a Yahoo group devoted to it. It takes up a perimeter of 8' X 9' which should fit nicely in my room. The trackplan is called "The Heart of Georgia" and looks to offer lots of operational possibilities. The author created a blog about it a few years ago. You can read all about it here: http://hogrr.blogspot.ca/ Here's some photo highlights from the blog: The track plan:

I like the fact I can run wider radius track and while I like scenery, I won't have to fill large areas with it. I will be able to concentrate on doing more detailed scenes in a small area. I'm excited about doing this one and spent about 3 hours creating it in Anyrail using Atlas Code 100 track. While this layout isn't for everyone I think it will suite me just fine. Todd

I really like that. The bottle neck at the bridge creates interesting traffic problems, particularly if you are using DCC.
My only reservation would be that one has to crawl under it to get at it. That's fine when you're young...
Oh, and I might be less than a Class 1 modeler, but good luck on using Styrofoam base. I never had luck getting anything to adhere to it very well, including foam specific Woodland Scenic foam glue. If I was to do this, I'd try to find Homasote. But that's just me.
Thanks for posting this. I never get tired of looking at track plans. I eagerly await "in progess" photos.
On second look, that could be a rather convincing inlet for the Bay of Fundy.

Island,
I've seen your HoG posts on a couple of sites now. I've been trying to think of a layout I want to build in my soon to be new space. I'll have about the same space with one corner able to go to about 12ft. This layout looks like a lot of fun. Keep us updated on your progress.
Chops,
For getting stuff to stick to foam, I've had good luck with Loc-tite Power Grab all purpose construction adhesive. It goes on white and dries clear. It stays tacky for a long, long time.

Nothing yet. It will be a while before I can start. The designated "train room" needs some serious renovations (a.k.a plaster wall coming down...) before I can begin. In the meantime I'm trying to gather some train related items. I do like the name "Heart of the North Atlantic"!

I like the track plan. It simple and yet It has everything. Yard switching Point A to Point B passing siding And Continuous running if you just want to watch 'em run.
And flexible, you could even bring in an extra half-foot on the inside for a bit more scenery or track and still have room for yourself in the middle there.

| Yes, that's all the same reasons why I like it. It took me a while to reproduce the track plan on Anyrail mostly because I didn't have a lot of experience using flex track in that program (and in real life). Anyrail can also be really picky about track lining up (however you an adjust the sensitivity a bit). As we know in real life there is often a bit of "give" when laying track. I really can't wait to get started on it!
