The thread about rarest Tyco items got me thinking...always a
bad thing in my case. I know Lionel did some cigarette billboard
cars back in the 1960's. Did any HO manufacturers do that?
I got a nice Tyco Mail Pouch, but never have seen any cigarette
advertising. Is there such a thing? Any backstory (like public
blow back, excuse the pun) on those cigarette cars? Micro, what
you know about this?

Oh wow, they do exist! I imagine the cigarette companies never had
a prototype billboard car, as it would attract thieves like bees to honey.

In my trucking days I once hauled a trailer of top shelf liquor from
Brooklyn to Bellows Falls, VT. I was so nervous about getting jacked
that being that it was the wee hours I blew threw every stop sign
between the pick up point and the I-95 and didn't stop until I dropped
the load at the terminal. I'd rather have transported a load of
nuclear waste or dynamite.

That car is a Train-Miniature, and did they ever make a lot of
tobacco, cigar, cigarette, pipe and chewing tobacco cars!!
I think we're on the edge of someone's slippery slope.
Look out.

I'm surprised that some wing nut group hasn't gotten up in arms and had all these cars rounded up and destroyed. let's keep the subject hush hush.

You underestimate the level of wingnuts we have nowadays. Witness the "flap" over Walmart's "disgusting, violent" livestock hauler truck.

I suppose they would REALLY flip if they discovered Lionel's operating stock cars.

You will probably only find tobacco related train items on older models. There are laws in many states that anything sold to minors cannot have any tobacco advertising on it. Personally I am not in favor of tobacco but back in the day they did advertise it and if you are modeling that period then it should be available.

Train Miniature's Tobacco Road series. Both cigar and cigarette billboard boxcars, some accurate, some made up, some copied from period advertisments.

I have three on eBay now at half the price anyone else wants for theirs.

I kinda agree with you, but making new tobacco billboard cars would in effect still end up marketing tobacco to kids (which I'm not fine with), unless they were only sold to adults.

I'm not interested in most tobacco billboard cars, but there are a couple I do want. One is the Tyco Mail Pouch car (on the subject of which, it bugs me that they used the plugger tooling for that) because I need one for the Clementine's consist. The other is the Train Miniatures Prince Albert car, for humor purposes (such as putting it in a can and taking a photo).

Feedback-hungry attention w****
