My COTW is a Varney B&O hopper from the 60's. Someone who had this before me actually upgraded the couplers to have Kadees, which is pretty cool.

Lordy, I hate Kadees. For a while I got on the Kadee kick and spent more time chasing lost knuckle springs and trying to adjust coupler heights. The latest craze is scale air hoses that couple magnetically.
If I had a dime for every complaint I've heard about my faithful old X24's then I'd be able to buy Zelda 15 Pacific tenders, and wheels.
Anyways, my old Tyco junk is grinding out the miles, literally doing circles around those high end train sets lying on their sides because of a coupler failure.
To be fair, my professional model railroader bud, Moose, hardly ever has a derailment, but spends an actual 12 hour day getting his equipment precisely right, but then has to handle each piece like a soufflé fresh out of the oven.

In my experience, both horn hook and Kadees have always worked just fine for me. Both of them have their own issues when it comes to coupler heights and whatnot, but, for me, both kinds have always worked well.

When necessity has required, I've wrassled a horn hook to a Kadee. I've had so many springs sproing over my head. Trying to find one is like trying to find a dropped contact lens. Ah, the horn hook life for me.

The Katy plug door reefer, and the B&O hopper are wonderful cars. Painted and lettered in a factory way. Both are pleasant to see. Thankyou ! frank

Cat of the Week. Chopsticks the Siamese playing with tractors from a stash purchased at very reasonable prices from MoparRocker74. For you slot car guys, Mopar is selling off his collection of 600+ slot cars, including a wide array of US 1 Trucking.
PM me and I'll send you his direct email address. He was most pleasant and willing to negotiate very fair prices and shipped promptly.

One of Roundhouse/MDC's earlier plastic freight car offerings after they gave up making everything 100% metal. 50' boxcar with a one-piece metal bottom and either a plug door or a strangely wide standard door. Only have one of each type here, not very common cars
