The other thing about this - if you want to hear what it sounds like for a modern consist to go into emergency braking, this will answer that question. I'm guessing that there are now some serious flat spots on those wheels. I'd be curious to know how fast the train was moving at impact, it's tough to tell from the video. The truck driver should thank God the cab didn't get pulled into the wreck. The rest of his life is officially gravy at this point.

Yeah, that was the thing that stood out to me as well - the noise is absolutely incredible and scarily haunting. I wish the video went on long enough to how long it took to come to a complete stop after hitting the E-button...
The way traffic is stuck and pulled all over the place - such that someone was filming in the first place and nobody was moving in either crosswise direction in the intersection - it seems like something was going down even before that happened. Trucker still should have known better, but you almost wonder if he just didn't find himself inadvertently hopelessly trapped. Luck takes strange forms.Edited by - GoingInCirclez on May 02 2007 01:09:28 AM

Tony, I looked at this again today, and they've changed the attached video - FYI, it now includes a shot directly adjacent to the collision point. You also get a clear view of the hoppers. They edited out most of the sound! I guess the average citizen is not impressed by the wall of sound created when dropping into the big hole at track speed. Just noise to the unenlightened!

This video shows the whole thing unedited and at end the locomotive with clothes on front. The guy was moving from Texas to New York. The screaching of metal on metal is awesome in this video. Luckily no one was injured or killed in this collision.
