I'm pretty pumped. My first Tyco set was a Via Rail set sold at Sears. I think it would have been around 1977. Soon after I got it my dad took me to the hobby shop and we bought the Layout Expander set. Well wouldn't you know it. I found a guy selling both the Via set and the expander set!
He is about 200 miles from me so I asked if he'd be willing to ship. Well it turns out he has a couple of employees working in the city where I work next week. He's going to deliver it! I feel like that kid back in 1977 again! I'm tempted to duplicate my original layout (same buildings etc) . Todd

It's tempting to recreate the exact layout I had as a kid- same buildings etc. I eventually had the loop in the middle and the two sidings (but not the third with the unloading hopper car set)

So that's what it's supposed to look like! I have the same set box but with different contents and what appears to be a factory applied "re-label" on the end. Great find!

The recreation is kind of what I done only in an extremely larger version. I bought all the train cars & buildings I had in the 1970s. Then bought all that I would have had if I had the funds back then...

haha. Good idea. I had hours of enjoyment back then with just the stock hornhook couplers and those uncoupler tracks. I'd do tons of switching without any real issues . Then as I got older I discovered Kadee couplers and Athearn freight cars with body mount couplers. My layout didn't like either of them... I really think when I build a layout this time it will be with the hornhooks and uncoupler tracks!
If you notice the locomotive on the box looks almost gray instead of blue. Did Tyco produce a Via locomotive this colour?

Looks like black on white to me, I don't see the blue. Hope you do build that childhood set.
Like Walt, I kind of did that too, only with a bigger allowance.
And nope, never seen a pre-decorated map except once at a garage sale. But I wasn't collecting Tyco then, so I passed on it. $@%@#%$%^^%^$@%$@#!!!Edited by - Chops124 on January 14 2016 6:55:31 PM
