My LOTW is a 1987 Bachmann Spectrum 44 ton GE switcher diesel in Southern Pacific livery. As far as I can tell, this thing is one of, if not, the first engine that started bringing Bachmann to becoming a major player in the model railroading business in general. Of course, there was also the Bachmann Plus lineup, but I heard the Spectrum lineup is when they really began perfecting their products.

Sweet little piece. My first attempt to install DCC
decoder was in this unit. It had one motor per
truck. It caught fire.

Thats interesting, to say the least. Yes, mine does have two open frame noises which would explain the noise and just how well it runs overall. It's actually quite a good mechanism.

I found that it ran better before it caught fire.
Actually, after the fire it ran not at all. To the
scrap box. Made me madder than hops. For all
its short life, it was an excellent piece.

Yep, I put a decoder in a couple of those and they actually worked for a few years, but then they smoked. The problem with the two motor version is the motors have an inherent defect that results in a large amount of carbon getting filled in between the commutator segments causing a high resistance short and then poof, the magic smoke comes out. For $35 I got a nice new chassis with a single can motor that is perfect Alas the 44 tonner is still noisy, but I don't believe it will smoke anymore.
Regards, Vic B.

My LOTW is a pristine ATSF RS-11 from AHM that I picked up at a swap meet. I cant see any signs that it had ever been used. Price was right.

Not sure WHICH locomotive I should select this week! I picked out so many at the shop from an estate, it's making it difficult. Ok, the Conrail one. :D This American GGK E60CP is very nice, I have one in BN livery, too. I spotted this one, and said MINE. :)

Got a second look at this piece. This is a pretty amazing piece. What's its vintage and what
is its backstory? Philadelphia and Reading? Does it run pretty good?

I purchased a group of locomotives earlier this year on evilbay that were being
sold for "parts or restoration". There were 15 in the batch, at a cost of $4 each.
That included shipping. There were a total of 5 Aristocraft locos in the bunch
which is why I grabbed it. There was the 2-4-2, a 2-8-0, a 4-6-0 and (2) of the
2-6-0 Thomas Rogers in the group. All were in rough shape and had water
damage. They were all made in the late 50' and early 60's.

The 2-4-2 Columbia and the 2-8-0 still had the loco stickers on them in good
shape, so i decided to restore them. The Columbia took a lot of cleaning but
turned out nice and runs very well. The 2-8-0 is still being worked on.

One of the 2-6-0's is being turned into a Christmas train because the loco stickers
were all ruined and there are no replacements to be had for them.

The 4-6-0 is a total loss, but, I got two of the locos that I am missing from the
Old Timer series. I have the 2-4-2 and the 2-6-0 already.

The tender is not the one that originally came with the loco, but I'm using it as a
fill in til I can find the right one.

More Info:
The “Columbia” was a high speed passenger locomotive built by Baldwin Locomotive
Works for the Columbian Exposition. It was given to Columbia University in 1898 for
a test plant.

Original Model. Weight: 61 tons. Cylinders: (4) high pressure, 13” diameter X 26” stroke;
low pressure 22" bore x 26” stroke. Driving Wheels: 84 ¼” diameter.

A couple of photos.
Side view.

draped over the front of the cab?

That "sunshade" looking thing is just the way the dome appears in the photo. The quality of the
