I finished these today..... They were very hard to do. There was a massive amount of taping required to get the 3 colors in the front/rear of each car. The blue was a mix of French Blue and White Testor's. Also, I painted the area around the windows with Testor's Classic White before putting the decals on. This required a lot oof taping also. The Microscale decals I got were too wide to fit between the windows. What I had to do, what to cut slices (some 70) to the correct size to put the decals between the gaps on the windows. These declas I cut were the red.white and blue Amtrak striping. This took 6-8 hrs. UGH! Once everything was completed, I used my 50/50 Testor's Gloss/Dullcoat mix only where the decals/ white paint and both ends of each car. The RDC-3 Mail Car and One of the RDC-1 Coaches are motorized. Actually, I think these came out really nice....... One more project left......

This is a pic of the "real" Amtrak RDC-1....

Both of the motorized cars are the hi-fi with the rubber bands. I wish I could convert them to the geared drive.
Thanks for the compliment!

Have to look for the thread but Nelson did a great conversion using the rubber band drive and a replacement can motor with lower RPM. No geared drive required.

Great work, got to love that Amtrak pointless arrow!!! Makes you wonder why Athearn didn't produce Amtrak RDC models?

Wait, they didn't? Weird because I kinda thought AF Kid's RDC's were literally just modded Athearn RDC cars with some added paint. The livery on the sides look practically identical to the streamlined coaches that Athearn made during their Blue Box era. Very well done.

These cars were all NIB Athearn silver Undecorated RDC cars. I painted the front and rear, painted the area around the windows white. I used two different sets of Microscale Amtrak decals... Thanks for the comments, guys!!!
