I'm going to start this week's LOTW a little early. Here's an oldie I pulled out of storage:
I got this off ebay a few years back in a "junk" lot. It appears to be an Athearn GP7/9 shell, but the motor is different. It appears to be made by Pittman. I use to run it occasionally, and it seemed to run well but I remember it seemed to have trouble on curves, although I had nothing less than 18 radius.
Somebody tell us more about it, please!

Good on you mate for keeping it going. My contribution this week is a brown box Chessie System I bought recently at a train show and in good condition. Had one as a kid and glad to find a replacement. Tony

You know it's funny, when I was a kid I thought Chessie was stupid. I didn't know what it was and didn't recognize the cat in the logo. It wasn't until my daughter decided that was her favorite line that I actually learned the history. Now I have C&O signs hanging around, calenders, mugs, and all sorts of stuff in my house.

I remember a friend of mine had a Chessie 430. I always thought it was so cool.

B77, that sure looks like a Hobbytown gearbox and flywheel. Though, I have been wrong many times before. I picked this up a while ago, planning for the day I could figure out a fix for the split-axle-syndrome. Lionel GS-4 Daylight. Just so darn beautiful.(opinion)

Some quick, lazy research turned up this: http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/32594.aspx
That daylight is definitely on my wish list.
Anybody have any experience with these?

I also have the Lionel Daylight. I bought it used at a train show a few years back, got it for $5, guy said it was shorted, DON'T run it! I got it home, and took it apart. the motor had so little oil on the bushings, it would barely turn, it had gotten so hot it burned/melted a hole in the right side of the shell. I had my modeling buddy patch the hole to look like a scale repair. I simply oiled the motor up, and put grease in the gearbox, and it runs fine now. I haven't put a Decoder in it (yet), nor run it much since it's repair and patch job. But do wish to give it some run time to see how it holds up. I suspect, as I've seen with many factory issues, that lack of lulbrication was all that was wrong with this engine. It IS a split frame, I'm not aware of any split axle problems with LIonel, I have a GS-4 and a J engine by Bachmann in the Plus series, both suffered broken axles, and neither have been repaired at this point, due to lack of parts ( at the time ). I haven't researched them to see if any are available. But the Lionel is at least running for now.

Just got this beauty at a Train show, an IHC 2-8-0 lettered for the Buffalo Creek and Gauley. Since it resembles BC&G number 4, I have dubbed it "Ole Slobberface". I got it for 45 bucks (haggled it from 60). I can always count on IHC to do a good job, this is my 4th IHC engine!

burlington77, whatever that set-up is, it looks pretty stout. Looks like a keeper. The locomotive body looks pretty good as well.

As several have pointed out, that's a HobbyTown drive. Pittman made the motor. This is the kind of learning and sharing I want to see on this board.
Barry-the body is awesome. Early Athearn GP7/9, one of my favorites. They used to paint the fans on top with the opposite color, as you see. This one needs to have the handrails squared up and painted. I'll add that to my to do list.
I just noticed that my blown-out boots are in the background. Those Red Wings lasted 15 years of on-off use before the sole fell off. Not bad. Time to head to the boot shop for repairs.

I definitely like the look of that thing. Might actually grab one at the show at some point.

Nice Espee patch jobs. I have some decals for a unnumbered unit. You just motivated me to work on that project.
