After a few tries of registering, here I am! My name is Peter, and I am a teen with a strong interest in tyco/mantua trains. Hoping to ask some questions and show what I've got!

Welcome to the forum, man.

I read on an old thread that I need to have at least 10 posts to be able to upload photos. Is that still true? I'm trying to upload some OTW pictures, but it keeps giving me and error saying save failed. The pictures are .jpg and don't have any spaces, but it still isn't working after mulitple tries. I also tried making the pic smaller than 1 megabyte, but it still won't work.

I believe it is, Peter, that at least 10 posts before you can upload pictures. Someone else had sad No, but I think it still holds true, to prevent spammers from joining then flooding the Forum. Anyway, welcome aboard, keep posting awhile, and it should let you do pictures. 1 MB is OK, bigger pictures have been loaded, but I try to resize mine to around 200 kb or so, to make it easier on the Forum server. A 1000 x 800 pixel picture runs about 250 kb in size. It will fill the whole screen, so no need for larger photos. You can time out the server with much larger photos, one reason to keep them down in size. Glad to see another young man interested in Tyco trains.

Ten posts and it still doesn't work. Still says save failed UPDATE: Changed file name from COTW_Burlington_gondola_6/14/15.jpg to Burlingtongondola.jpg and it worked. Strange.

Welcome Peter - glad to see a individual of your age with interest in Tyco - very rare these days but refreshing. Tyco is what got me into trains when i was growing up in the 70's and 80's.

Oh, you can't use the / character, that's why. Underscore _ is ok. Dash - is not. pretty much only the Underscore character is allowed, everything else is banned.

| I've always found it best to keep the names short and simple, but unique. If you name it something like "picture 1" and year from now you name another picture "picture 1" it will mess up your old post.

I don't think that's true since uploaded image names get a prefix appended to them consisting of the current date and a multi-digit number that is probably the system time in raw format. Naming images in this way should ensure that duplicate image names will never occur.

I'm thinking the space in "Picture 1" will play havoc, though.
Windows tolerates it, but Unix does not. Much of the internet is Unix driven.
