This past Saturday, May 23rd, 2015, the North Carolina Transportation Museum at Spencer Shops in Spencer, NC held its Sendoff Celebration for N&W J Class #611. 611 has spent the last year at Spencer being restored to operating condition, and now it's time to go home to Roanoke!

Before anyone asks, I don't know who the young lady in this picture is. People were posing for pictures everywhere!

This is the auxiliary tender; it was not coupled to 611 during the celebration:

Here is a link to video of 611 being moved onto the turntable at Spencer Shops: https://flic.kr/p/sLm4MF I'll try to get video of 611 on the turntable posted at a later time.
Finally, Here's a train for Buss!

I've always liked the look of this thing. And yeah, it does look like a face, kinda.

The J class was built with roller bearings on the wheels and even on the connecting rods. It was VERY state of the art when it was built.

The early J class did not have them ( 611 being one ), I bought an HO J , #613, which does have the roller bearings. They came both ways.

Says here that 605-610 lacked the fancy features because of WWII, but 611-613 were built in 1950 with all the fancy stuff: http://www.steamlocomotive.com/northern/?page=nw
