Yesterday around 12:30 pm my nephew's girlfriend gave birth to their first child, Athens David Wenner-Smith, 7 lbs 8 oz. My wife and I raised our nephew from the age of 13, so he's more like a son to us, so I guess that makes me sort of a grandparent, too.

Anyway, here's a picture of mother and child:

I'll post a better picture when I get one.

Congrats Glenn!

Man, I know I am getting old, but the new mother sure looks young! I hope your nephew realizes the life long journey he is now on! I wish you all nothing buy lots of love and luck!

Thanks all for the congrats and well wishes!

Sean, Mom and dad are both 23, so they're not too young, but I don't think either one was really ready for this, but they're gonna have lots of help and support.

Jerry, you're right, that is a wonderful picture!

Here are the additional pics I promised:

Glenn,
Congratulations, and may God bless the new family.
That first picture has the glow of motherhood in it.

Glenn,
That's good to hear! Especially that you will be there for help and support. I was on my own by the time I was 19. I could not imagine bringing someone into this world at 23! I was 32 and I still wasn't ready, but we had the help and support of my wife's mother, which made things a lot easier.. and still has. She moved in with us a few years back and I can assure you, I am no fan of living with a 78 year old woman, but sometimes it is very convenient. Iv'e just determined I don't have enough bathrooms! The woman is always in there!

When I said I would post a "better" picture, what I meant was a picture where the little guy was more visible, since you can hardly see him in the first picture.

BUT...

I think that first picture is simply amazing!

Congratulations! Now that's a GOOD looking baby! Glad to hear you're going to be there for help and support, they will surely need it.

I didn't get my boy until a week after I turned 43, and I wasn't ready even then.

Make sure you get him a train set - sounds like you'll be the grandpa he needs. That just makes me smile.

Thanks again for all the congratulations and well wishes!

And I think I can put together a train set from the various pieces that I already have and won't have to cringe when careless little hands get a little too rough!
