Interesting design and build! So that's a AHM?

Not bad, man. It looks a bit strange, but of course, it's not the finished product, as far as I can tell.

That's nicely done. I like the home made gear box and side frames. It takes some meticulous work to get all of that lined up and square.
Why the narrowed body? Is the AHM unit out-of-scale wide or are you modeling a particularly narrow prototype?
Anyway, that too was neatly done.
This is an interesting project. Please keep us posted.

Thanks guys. Not the finished look yet. Getting closer today. I'll update the other thread with pictures after I get done with yard work.
As for the narrowing, I compared to an SW1000 and it was about 5mm wider. And the doors looked O scale so I decided to do some narrowing. The sides are the same, decided to just keep it the stock length to try to keep the project simple.
After this, I plan on doing the same for a Tyco switcher.

Keeping and modifying the AHM mechanism or going for something new? How you power the thing will be the most interesting part IMHO...

Never had the AHM chassis, just the body. Here's what I've done for power. Working on pickups now. Modifying some of the gold contacts AMC_Gremlin_GT had offered up...

WC, that is some excellent gearbox fabrication. Very neat work. I always thought those 35 Tonners were interesting, as the hood is more like most industrial prototypes than the MDT, for example. The cab is overly large because of that big C-Liner motor Mehano put in them, so it'surprising they didn't used the narrower power truck motor they used in their Alco hood units like the RS2 and 11.
At any rate it looks cool, like an industrial switcher with an early comfort cab.

Nelson,
Thanks and thanks for the info on the AHM reasoning for the big cab. I had a feeling it was due to the motor.
Micro,
Everytime I see that I also like the stripes. I think I'm going to try to incorporate them in the final paint scheme.

Looking awesome so far! When it's up and running, I'd love to see a video of it on the move. Keep up the scratchbuilding!
