Since the Trading Post is now dead, do you guys have any good sites other than fleabay you like to frequent for buying and selling your MR stuff?

The only other (exclusive train) one I know of online is Tranz.com, the do online auction selling. I get their email flyer, but I've never bought through them. There are other sites, but none I've used other than the 'bay. That is my go-to site for most things trains.

You could try http://www.ezbizwebsite.com/ I've done a little business there with satisfactory results. Don't know about selling/trading though.

Trainboard.com has a trade section, although I've never used it.
I was debating about asking this question myself as I'm currently in need of some things.
For the record, I am NOT very happy about no buying/selling/trading here.

I agree - I think that eliminating the trading post was fixing a problem that didn't exist.

I'm not happy either, but what can we do other than finding another route? Tempted to start my own trading site, but probably not worth the hassle.

Do what we're doing now .. share resources .. hope the new owner/manager changes policy.
I don't know much about other train message boards .. I don't go there because of the attitude toward Tyco fans. Do other boards have a trade section?

You can always post in Loose Ends until the new owner deletes or locks the thread.

Thread is locked. Very unfortunate turn of events, it was fun and I did a bit of trading on that site. Suing the site for a $5 Tyco car is about the furthest thing from my mind, ever. It seems, sorry, but an hysterical and inappropriate reaction. This does not bode well for us.
Wasn't somebody starting up an alternative Tyco site? Maybe its time to leave this station.

The Trading Post Forum is headed with the statement "TycoForums.com not responsible for trades or satisfaction. All deals are at the sole discretion and responsibility of the parties involved." I am not a lawyer, but seriously...does that not cover it?
I'll withhold judgment - as I am not privy to the ins and outs of all that is going on behind the scenes. All the mystery does not help though.

Speculation, The site is open, have you paid your dues. When I go to a neighbor's house, I try to act like a guest. This site is open because Todd passed it on. The new owner is doing us a service. My dad told me never to look a gift horse in the mouth.
I say kudos to Todd and the new owner.
Todd because he kept the site open for many years and arranged to pass it on.
The new owner because it is still open, I fear the comments may be causing second thoughts. He is in charge of the management, and the responsibility.
I am personally very satisfied that we were 95% transitioned and not closed.
I understand closing the trading post for legal reasons.
Regards, John

Like the rest of you guys I want to say thanks and welcome to the new boss. I kind of stand where John is on the trading post. I remember what Todd said in his farewell message; that the new owner wasn't a member here before he took over. So, he doesn't "know" any of us. I imagine he has a real job and family that he is responsible for so he may be taking an initial look at things here to see what really goes on. Closing the trading post may just have been a knee-jerk action when he considered any possible liabilities he might incur. Once he has time to see how well we all behave he may decide to re-open the trading post with some type of new rules. Maybe that's why he wants all users registered; who knows.
I am thankful to have a place where I can read about the old trains; where I can see the re-building work of others and not be called an idiot because I have a bunch of Tyco and Life-Like stuff. I also appreciate the fact that there are not a zillion pop-up ads like a few other forums.

As long as the closing of the Trading Post is the only change to the forums, I'll be happy and will gladly find an alternative site for buying/selling/trading. Thanks for the suggestions.

Excellent thoughts, Randy and John. I don't want to sound negative, I love this site and you all know I spend a lot of time here. It is quite unique among model railroading sites for the reasons you and others (and myself) have described. The Trading Post was a plus, I enjoyed it, but it's certainly not the reason I log onto this site every chance I get lol. So best wishes and thanks to the new owner for keeping this place up and running. It is certainly appreciated!

Ok, fellows. I'll tone it down. I never saw a farewell message other than "don't contact me in anyway." That is not polite discourse, but I'll let it go, for now. I, too, love this site, but I fail to understand the abruptness of the "adios" and don't understand the legality of suing the TF over a $5 NH boxcar. On the face of it, this does not add up. Someone, perhaps the new owner, enlighten me.
The new boss, by the way, is not the Tyco Forum. YOU are the TF, I am the TF. We are graciously granted space herein, but without YOUR contributions this site is a dead duck. My biggest jolt is that some of that graciousness vanished with the opening statements.
Given half a chance, I am a very understanding and tolerant person. But I need a little warmth here.

Regarding the legal liability issue, I think we've all heard the "dumb lawsuit" horror stories enough to know that just because a lawsuit doesn't make sense, that doesn't mean it won't happen.
I once spent 2 days on a jury in a lawsuit over $1695.34. That's not all. The defendant wasn't trying to weasel out of paying the whole amount, just part of it. Plus, both sides hired lawyers. Between the court's time, lost working days for the jurors and the time of both the lawyers, I bet that WAY more than $1695.34 was spent on the fight. Could some bullheaded morons turn a $5 boxcar into the clash of the Titans? I don't blame anyone for saying, "not on my watch."
BTW, the lawsuit ended in a hung jury.

Agreed. And I do understand. However...... The older I get, the more intolerant I find myself of the legal liability paranoia we find ourselves in. It seems to always creep a little deeper into all our lives each day. Try buying a toaster - 20 pages of 4-point type explaining how the manufacturer is not liable if you burn your pinkie. Danger! Coffee is hot! And so on. Do I blame the new owner for being extra-careful? No...but I would hope that on further reflection, he might take a walk on the Wild Side.

I once was called on a jury, where an ex-wife was filing assault charges on her ex-husband. She was at his house cussing him and his new girl friend. Now I don't take well to striking a women, but I felt like she may have earned that slap. The legal system can be fickle. My church was sued because some kids climbed an 8 foot fence and was hurt on the playground equipment. There were no trespassing sign on the fence. So yes I can understand a wish to limit liability. We can still IM and email. As a group we can find a place to trade or sell. Regards, John

I say we just use loose ends for trading for now. I don't recall anyone ever having any real problems on the Trading Post in any way, so at the moment I'm lost as to the what the logic is behind closing it. Whatever the case, I guess we all just need to be patient (and that's the last time you will ever hear me suggest being patient) until the new owner shows himself so we can talk to him instead of speculating about things amongst ourselves.
I never did much buying or selling on the Trading Post, but I was honestly planning to make a deal with Ben over a whole bunch of stuff, AND post my entire box of cars to sell, this Saturday for the first time. Apparently I couldn't have worse timing if I tried

I'm thinking that we'd be better off to keep doing what we've been doing here where all of our past posts are and only move the trading post type stuff to the new site.

Tim, when you get tycotraders.com up and running, please post on the other site about it under Other Resources. You could even put it in your signature. The more resources for the Tyco fans the better.
