Anyone remember how from the 80s until the mid-2000s, Life-Like would sell some accessory/scenic sets for those who want to expand their train sets into being more like a model railroad? This doesn't mean track expansion or anything like that (as Life-Like already has those, selling them since the 80s.) I meant these:
These often seemed designed for if you got a simple train set with maybe just a circle or 45x36" oval of track, but they also perfectly compliment any bigger train sets Life-Like makes (like the Trans-American Express or Freightline USA.) Just get a Life-Like train set of your choice, one of those scenic accessory sets and a big of landscaping and you're already on your way to making a nice model railroad layout!
As for those "train set expander value packs," I remember two other versions, one including their "oil company" kit and a couple of tank cars, and another with their Pikesville Junction and stock pen kits, a stock car and railroad signs (they all include figures of some sort, too.)

I knew about the scenic accessories long before I found out that Lifelike also made trains, track, etc. Sure, I remember.

I remember a neighbor giving me as a birthday present a set of all 5 Atlas trackside buildings. The Switch Tower, Gate Tower, Water Tank, Trackside phone shack and trackside shack. This was 1960s and they all came as one big set. At that time Life-like meant trees and grass materials only.

I wouldn't mind finding one of those Life Like foam layout bases with the preformed hills etc.

I think I have one similar to those, actually, from the 1980's. I forget the name of it but I got it from my grandparents. I'll have to dig a bit again.

"A lot of modellers out there who go to these train shows see broken HO stuff and go, 'This is useless' when, in reality, they can still be used for modeling whether it's as a prop on your layout or a cool project to make something old new again."
