I received a Hobbyline F unit today that has a shell that looks real close to new. From the outside I would say it has rarely been used. It even has a unique coupler that I have never seen on it, I assume it must have been what they used at the time.
Issue I am having is with the motor. The top plate that holds the springs in place is broken on one side. Where can I get one of these? One of the brushes is just dangling on the wires. The motor, comm brushes look real good. It is just the piece that holds the brushes in place that I see an issue with.

I have the same issue with a Japanese trolley motor. I'm going to attempt a repair using a couple of pieces of old circuit board material, less the copper of course, and JB Weld.

I have repaired several of these by drilling tiny holes in the board and using a piece of wire to hold the brush in place. I anchored the wire with super glue.
If you can't fix it send me your address.

They're basically just a fiber board, either 'glass or cardboard. THey get brittle with the heat and age, and eventually crack apart. I have scraps of raw PCB fiberglass pcbs, I was going to attempt to make one to fix a Marx power truck unit, very similar to the HObbyline unit. Should be doable. I still haven't attempted it yet. But it should be a relatively straight-forward process. Hard part will be cutting the slots correctly for the brush arms.

| The more I think about it the more I am leaning twords cutting a new board. I am not even sure how the motor is attached currently. The lower truck is mounted to it through a hole in the frame, this I can see from the side. Unfortunately without dismantling the truck I cannot tell if it is a rivet or screw that is used. The motor comm is near perfect. I placed a wire from the track to the com and it came to life. The brushes are mostly still flat, very little wear.

If this helps. Here is a listing I found for parts for a Hobbyline switcher. The motor looks like the same one and the board is good.

Thanks for the link, I saw that earlier and thought the same thing (I am one of the 3 current watchers). Only issue is that as soon as I saw it I new my next issue would be fixing a Hobbyline switcher.

The motor appears to be a DC60, if that helps. I'm thinking it looks like a job for PC board and a Dremel tool. :)

I used the broken piece as a pattern to cut a new one out of styrene. Works well.
